First of all, I've seen a movie ripped from DVD on a 512 stick and, although I don't know at what resolution, it looked fine. I have problem with your assessment of the PSP:

    1. Homebrew
To be honest, why would a game system support homebrew and how many people are really going to run homebrew? Love how /. makes this seem like a feature that John Q. Public gives a shit about. I don't care, and only a tiny minority does. The only reason homebrew works on any systems is through hacks anyways.

    2. No good games
The library is a little thin right now I agree but it is always thin at launch - no exceptions. I hate the argument that it should just run older PS2 games, but since those games are a little dated why bother? Some aren't really games that would port to a portable system either.

    3. Portable DVD player instead
Moot point because those do not play games.

    4. MP3
I didn't buy it to play MP3s and I doubt that anyone did. It's just a 'value added' feature that people expect since it's just that easy to do now.

Nice that you call millions of people 'dumb suckers'. I have disposable income and just choose to purchase something that I do enjoy playing. I will say that if you are getting it purely for playing media you need to look elsewhere.

Like another poster said, I just don't care. I'm not stealing anything - I am using the data that a rightly paid for and moving it to some other media. I have no ethical problem with this since I'm not selling it or putting it out on a torrent. I'm watching it and then deleting it. We do have a little bit of privacy in this country (yes, the USA) and the FBI doesn't care either as long as it's not costing anyone money.

Ripping a DVD and using the data for personal use doesn't result in sales lost by the MPAA since most movies aren't on UMD anyways and I'm not going to buy them on UMD either.

The problem is that new releases are $22 a piece, and since I like to watch movies at home more than at a theatre I know the difference between a DVD and a UMD. If Sony would their new releases down to even $15 per UMD with older releases at $10 or less they would easily surpass a million UMD sales by now. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay $22 for a movie I most likely already own in a different format.

If I was smart I would buy a 512mb memory stick and transfer movies to it instead. I just need to cough up the ~$60+ for it.

So in one second (if i did my math right) you need to be able to see something ~14 meters in front of you. You most likely need at least a 5 second headstart since you have to break or turn. So about 60 meters sound right? The more the better. You need sensors/image processing that are powerful enough to be accurate out that far and then you need to process it. Don't forget AI so you know what to do.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is very cool and would love to try to do this, but I'm realistic. If someone suceeds this time I will be very surprised.

Now, I could see doing maybe 5 or 10 problems but after that you are only turning kids off to math, and that's the issue we struggle with in the states already. My parents felt it was excessive and my mother was a teacher as well!

Bottom line is that without shear willpower and support from my parents I probably wouldn't have stayed in the high-level math. Would that have kept me out of the computer field later in life? Probably not, but why frustrate with extra homework that serves little purpose. It also was quite egotistical of my teacher to think that her class was the only one with homework.

I dropped calculus my senior year in high school to take woodshop and to be honest, that was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. Designing furniture and then building it forced me to creatively apply the math I had learned and I discovered something I'm great at and enjoy doing as a hobby.

You may think that the average american, namely my father who was born in 1945 (yes, he's 59), wouldn't care about copying a DVD and you're right - he doesn't. But he sure as hell won't let anyone mess with his time-shifting ability, via TiVo (which he doesn't have but wants) or a VCR.

Thinking a Kevin Smith review is going to be objective would be like thinking a Win XP review done by Bill Gates is going to be objective. Smith is a fanboy and as poor a storyteller as Lucas.

Mind you, I liked Clerks, Mallrats, and thought Chasing Amy was his best. Dogma was good, but come on, Jay and Silent Bob was sophomoric and Jersey Girl was plain and boring. Kevin Smith is nothing special. The only difference between him and everyone else on /. is he got lucky with 1 movie and it has made his career. I really wonder how he can still make movies since all the ones he makes are medium-budget flops. After worldwide release JASBSB and Jersey Girl were flops. Only Dogma made a profit (8 mil profit). Don't know about the earlier - boxofficemojo.com doesn't have the production costs on those.

Funny thing is I loved Star Wars 4/5/6; you could even call me a fanboy. Same thing with Clerks/Mallrats/Chasing Amy - fanboy. Now both franchises only get a passing glance from me.

That said, yes, I am going to see it but I'm not excited about it when, if the franchise hadn't let me down, I should be. But it's just going to be another summer action movie like all the others and while that's fine, people get all bent out of shape expecting more.

Obviously Anakin joins the Emperor and becomes dark, with the final battle against Anakin and Obi-wan in the whole 'lava extravaganza' in the previews is what physically destorys Anakin so he becomes Vader. Padme will be off with her baby (but there are really two! shocking!) to Alderaan. The Wookie angle might be something new but if you know a little back story you know how this turns out. Again the 'third' movie will end with muppets.

So really, why are the previews so upbeat? It's not as if the Jedi even have a chance at winning and everyone should know that by now. It seems like all the plot twists are reserved for episodes 4/5/6, which we've already seen. I would rather the commercials be dark, not this Nickelodeon/Disney crap.

He wasn't a baseball player, he was a batter. And this isn't a knock on the DH rule in the American League, it's a knock on Canseco. One time when he was playing outfield a fly ball bounced off his head and out of the park for a homerun and it should've been easily caught. Being an all-star is about popularity and hitting homeruns will make you popular, but where's his batting title? Where's his gold glove?

Closed captioning once again doesn't limit me. If I want it it's on, if I don't it's not. Besides it only allows MORE people access to the media instead of restricting access.
