Nothing is stopping MS from creating a legacy-free OS which they would have the control over.
But the market would pick a competitor if they made the wrong move, they would prefer to keep compatibility to benefit from the existing userbase.
If they broke compatibility they would also be breaking their own monopoly, and have less restrictions. The monopoly issue was with competitors being affected by microsoft bundling their own version of software into windows (which they had a monopoly on).
Optimal revenue can be acheived when combining red-light cameras with speed cameras and setting the amber time so that exeeding the speed limit is required in order to not run a red light.
Adobe has kept that quiet whilst pretending to be worried about flash going down the pan.
Flash is just an export file format, and they can now export to a slightly less bloated/featured format. this type of technology will cement Adobe more into the web development industry.
If Adobe are smart they will be the number 1 HTML5 authoring tools around.
mount and blade, sins of a solar empire, anno 1404, torchlight deserve a mention. just go for pc only games when buying for pc. instead of keyboardified console games.
I doubt.fla will ever die. Adobe can change the output file to html5+js when it is mature enough. It's the authoring software that they make the most money on and not the players.
