Also, there might be a problem with the FCC on this (I'm not American, but a lot of countries, mine included, like to keep track of what devices can use the licensed spectrum, for compatabilty/service disruption/whoring out to corps/whatever). I read somewhere that cellphonemakers are are forbidden by law to opensource their firmware, or something... (If anyone knows anything about this, please enlighten me.. :)

I went to an american high school for a year. I was the only one in the entire US history class who knew who Slobodan fucking Milosevic was (this was the year after they had taken World History..), and when I answered the question "Which former Yugoslav president is currently being prosecuted for war crimes?", I heard "Who's that?", and the kid next to me asked "How do you know so much?". I read fucking newspapers, that's what. I'm not some brainiac searching the intarweb, reading dictionaries and encyclopedias so I can say random obscure stuff. Do call me a troll, but it seems that what is considered common/relevant/obvious knowledge in most of the rest of the world, even among highschoolers, kids in the US have no clue about. (I'm not saying everyone at my school were braindead/uninformed/clueless, just that the brain signal to noise ratio was sorta shifted towards "that's gay." and stuff.

    US forces in Europe

Do you see any European forces in the US? No? Then I think it's a good thing that they're leaving, no matter the complaints from the people who have lost their jobs that were created by a demand that really shouldn't have been there. I would guess that a lot of the jobs lost don't require any/much training, like working at lidl (the nazis are back, now in form of a grocery chain... (don't take this too seriously, please), or truck driving. So these people have not invested 5-8 years in getting their jobs, will not have to do retraining to keep up. They will just have to move, if they want to stay in the same trade.

I would say that them losing their jobs is tolerable. Dealing with the US while they have hundreds of thousands of soldiers in your country could become like arguing with someone who has a solid grasp on your balls, and for every time you disagree there's the threat that he might give them a squeeze. I mean, should the solution to unemployment all over the world be to call the US to see if they will put a military base near your local impoverished area?
