This is off topic, but glad you posted it.
I'm a big fan of his, and didn't know. Have more details? or what day did it happen?:( I still think "back to school" was his greatest film.
I had a hotmail account years ago... and thought it was decent. But I like pop to much, and the ability to actually download and have email stored locally.
Thought the only client that could access hotmail was Entourage which costs.
Anyway I really like gmail, been using it for months, every person I know has been able to email and span hasn't been an issue. In fact since I started using gmail 4-5 months ago,I've received 2 spams, and that was auto directed to my spam folder. Didn't even realised it till I looked for it.
If you need a gmail account email at jshriver gmail.com I'll hook you up.
Sincerely,
Joshua Shriver
Off topic, but I like sharing free gmail accounts.

Doubt anyone here *doesnt* already have a gmail account.
But if anyone here hasn't, email explaining your situation, and I'll give you an invite.
I've been storing them up for months.

I tried installing Linux on my Dual G4, and I must admit this is the hardest arch to install linux on.
My best luck has been with Debian, but setting up X11 was a pain.
Especially since NVidia doesn't supply PPC drivers for the GeForce 2 MX card.
It's been a while, have things changed much? Anyone have any other recommended distro's?
I would recommed checking out http://www.rustboy.com/
It's another guy at home using an old Mac and basic software, but creating some beauiful video.
I'm curious how they compare in quality.
I dont know how true this is for the general public, but I've never known anyone to have problems switching over.
My mom, girlfriend, and other friends who have been using Windows for years only took a couple seconds to do what they needed to on my machine.
Heck you can even use a Wintel USB keyboard on a Mac, and the Window's key automaps to Apple key.
Try apple(windows)-tab, voila it switches programs.
I think the only semi-problem I've seen is program names. So when someone asks where's AIM, I just say use iChat (or even AIM if you download it), Notepad use Text Pad.
For my unix friends, load terminal and voila bash script to your hearts delite.
Just my $0.02
I understand how you feel.
I didn't start programming, or using computers really till 1996, but even then x86 asm + C seemed to rule the programming world. That's one thing that inspired me to be a programmer. So I spent a lot of time mastering those two, and learning to be a tight coder.
However since C++/Java (OOP) and the myriad of GUI widgets came out. It seems politics have taken over programming skills.
From a business perspective it makes sense though.
Get it done, use what resources get it done that's "Good enough" and get it out the door ASAP.
Hense we have a ton of VB code monkeys out there. Yet I'm making minumum wage, because I can't do VB.Net.
Guess I have mixed feelings. Bottom line is it's not an artform anymore, it's a strict business with $$ making the decesion.
How does this compare to the ACM ICPC?
For those who don't know ACM also has a college level, and has regional/and world finals each year.
As a former participant I'm curious what the diff is, and how you enter this one.

God bless him, hopefully he's in a better place

removeable USB solid state device (with or w/o HID compatibility) :)
Perpahs in crowd ;) I'd say it leans closer to having an iPod than a pocket protector hehe.

This sounds like a good idea... Knoppix-MythTV distro rings a bell... if only I had a vid capt card I'd give this a shot.. hopefully someone will.
I wish MythTV would be ported to OS X. I love mencoder and mplayer, and hear MythTV is top quality software.
Anyone know when MesaGL will have OpenGL 2.0 support?
