    Millions of people have purchased iPads and our happy with them. If you chose to believe it is because they are not as smart as you, they have medications that will help with your delusions.

    I am one of those happy millions. I am also a computer scientist, a professional software developer, a gamer and a long time Linux enthusiast. I like to think that the emotional iPad deniers are not a smart as me! Can you recommend any good meds for my condition?

    He has a deal with the mysterious British agency known as the Laundry. He doesn't publish the fourth volume and they don't render him metabolically inactive. Don't any of you pay attention to what Charlie Stross has to say?

    By some bizarre coincidence I just read my first Laundry story yesterday and now I notice the Laundry mentioned here. I suddenly feel I've been dropped into some parallel timeline where Charlie Stross just popped into existance. Makes me wonder what disappeared to allow it to happen.

    There's a comparison in here somewhere between what Pakistan is doing and the Texas school book stuff.

    In both cases, we have religion so terrified of concepts that they actively seek to block the dissemination of said concepts.

    Yup, you know your ideology is in trouble when you have to censor the ENTIRE world to defend it.

    Though... flying civilian filled airliners into a civilian target causing thousands of pointless deaths IS a great reason for being offensive, but not ignorant or intolerant.

    I believe your information is a little outdated, as illustrated by this map of the known world.

    That must be the map the CBC used to determine that the quake occurred in Ontario despite the fact that they provided a map showing it in Quebec.

    We actually tried to continue our meeting but then they finally got to our floor to check it out they found us and told us to leave. As you can guess, no more work is really being done today. It's pretty exciting for us as we don't get this here.

    Nice... I'm in the IBM building in Kanata and only half the people even bothered to stand up. Welcome to the civil service...

    Snow day? Ha, here in SoCal just a rainy day is a major upset in our routines. Odd how you get used to some things.

    Earthquakes = No problem. Drizzle = OMG WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!!!

    Indeed... Here in Ottawa 60km from the epicenter a 5.5 is enough to scare the living crap out of half the population. But we'll handle three feet of snow overnight without flinching then drive to work at 60mph before all the roads are clear.

    Here in southern California, a mere 5.5 would hardly even arouse anyone's interest. Probably make page 1 of the local section unless the Padres made a big trade; then it would be relegated to page 2.

    Agreed. I'm in Ottawa which is about 60km from the epicenter. Really it was nothing, but still the largest I've experienced. It felt slightly worse than the one I experienced in Montreal ... I guess in 1988, but even then I've has worse jostling from turbulence.

    In my office the reaction was evenly divided, one half headed for the stairs and the rest sat and watched it happen.

    Shatner isn't bilingual, which is a serious strike against anyone vying for the GG position.

    For all intents and purposes, he's an American at this point.

    Yup, I would be insulted as a Canadian if he (Or quite frankly any other actor) were appointed. Nice guy and all, but just not a GG candidate.

    We have had a couple of very successful journalists do the job, but there's a huge difference between a veteran reporter and a veteran actor.
