  1. Windows NT 3.51 on Windows NT Turns 20 · · Score: 2

Windows NT 3.51 was the most stable operating system I have ever used.
    I miss it sometimes.

  2. My new hero on FBI Raids Security Researcher's Home · · Score: 0, Flamebait
Christopher Soghoian is my new personal hero.

I sincerely hope that his actions will make us all a little safer.

It only helps that I'm an Indiana University alum myself.
Go Hoosiers! Beat the FBI, rah rah rah!

  3. HP LaserJet 1320 on Affordable Laser Printers? · · Score: 1

I've had my HP LaserJet 1200 for several years, and it's super. I have it running off of a cheap D-Link wired printserver. HP doesn't make that exact printer anymore, but the LaserJet 1320 is currently $269 at Newegg.

  4. Re:just like NT 3.1, 3.5 and 3.51 on Vista's Graphics To Be Moved Out of the Kernel · · Score: 1

I couldn't agree more. A lot of us were worried when MS decided to move the graphics inside ring 0 back with NT 4. I ran NT 3.51 Server on a 486 DX2/66 back in the day. It ran without a reboot for 6 months (until my college dorm lost power). Say what you like about NT, but that version was stable as anything else I've ever used. I'm glad to see the graphics subsystem moving back out where it belongs, and I hope it helps Vista's stability.

That said, I think I'll just keep my PowerBook.

  7. Every nerd's fantasy. on Star Wars Revelations - May the Force Be With You! · · Score: 2, Insightful

Imagine, just for a second, how much fun it would be working on this movie.

I'd throw in my nine bucks just to support such a tremendous labor of love and nerd fantasy made real. Well, real as in movie real. Not real as in "don't cut your fingers off with the lightsaber."

Forget SETI@Home, how about RenderFanFilms@Home? I'd be in for that. I imagine quite a few of you would, too!

Fear my exceedingly low UID, and my exceedingly low post count. Yes, I am the longest-running lurker on Slashdot.

  8. Focus, Grasshoper on Uniquely Bright: Experiences and Tips? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Your will must overcome your wandering intellect.

Pick a goal, and move towards it. You may lose interest in the details along the way, but keep in mind your ultimate goal, and use that as motivation to re-focus on the details.

Without a focus, you will be at the mercy of your mind. Instead, endeavor to use your intellect as a tool to move yourself along.
