XBOX 360 still does analog video out so there is no REQUIREMENT for HDTV. It is merely an upgrade path you can choose to follow if you want to.... as your finances allow.
Ahh...predictable responses...
So tell me what happened to your PlayStation...
You know, PSone. The actual hardware you used to play these games on. Did it go missing? Did it explode? Both?! You obviously still have the hardware around but for one reason or another do not have it hooked up. You fail to present a compelling case for backwards compatibility by merely running off a list of games in pursuit of self-gratification.
The SNES wasn't a failure because it wasn't compatible with the NES games. People grumbled about it at first but then got lost in love with all the new SNES games and came to the realization that it didn't matter anyway because they still had a NES to play NES games on.
Backwards compatibility is a gimmick at best. Can you honestly tell me that you have played any PSone game on your PS2 in the last 4 years? (aside from the occassional retro-binge) My GBA has played exactly ONE Gameboy game in it's time with me. (Tetris)
Adding an expensive and technically demanding (legally and otherwise) feature to an already expensive box is dumb, and given that it's a feature hardly anyone aside from Microsoft's marketing department will actually USE is completely asinine.
Tangent! : "Fully destructable objects"?? yeah right. People would spend all their time shooting at buildings and having demolition competetions (who can level the hotel the fastest or with the fewest rockets)
I especially liked how they edited it to look as though the gamer was speaking in another language while they showed clips of the developers looking glazed over!
Cut to "Will it be cool?" "YEAH!" which had that Mtv pseudo-hipster-vomit written all over it. It is so AWESOME to -not- know things! Woooooooo!
How on earth did something so damned funny get modded as insightful?!
I'm confused...I'm gonna go apply a fresh coat of green ink to my CD player's lens...
The initial price paid for a console is damn near irrelevant after you start buying games for it.
If PSP games are $50 (!), you might as well get the PS2/3 version for around the same price.
On the other hand, the most expensive DS game I've seen was $35.
If discs are cheaper to manufacture than ROM chips, why won't Sony do the right thing and price them to match the DS games? It's a slippery slope, folks. (Remember the words "What the market will bear". Personally I will NOT bear $50 PORTABLE games)
It's interesting that the cartidges have become cost competitive with discs after all this time! (within reason, that is)
(auxilary crap : I remember the first game for Atari 2600 that I bought that was THIRTY (OMFG!) DOLLARS! Before that everything was around $15-20. I also foundly remember the first ever 8MB game for a console (Strider for Genesis) and painfully remember the $91.20 I paid for it!)
I wonder how many people will drop their powerbooks while playing games in this manner...
It's strange to me that something designed to help protect the hardware in the event of a fall is now encouraging people to walk around tilting and shaking their $3000 laptops...
"D00d! These new seatbelts are awesome! Lets go drive backwards on the highway at full speed...because we can!! w00t!"
If your religion depends on the idea that we are special in the universe and that we are the only forms of life that were created by god then you will likely have a problem with the idea that there is life on mars and end up having to reform your ideas of what constitutes "life". This is where the abortion paradox comes in. THEY believe that life begins at conception (which is when sperm meets egg, for those of you living in your mom's basement). The problems with this are obvious and I'll leave them for you to find...
Eh...on second thought, they will probably continue to live in conflict with logic and be seen as archaic fools forever more.
oh yeah, uh....Idiot. there! I've met my "be an asshole on slashdot" quota for the day! w00t!
Which is, by the way, the best representation of the Simpsons universe to date. The little quips do get annoying, but the gameplay is solid for once. They essentually borrowed the GTA game engine/formula and skinned it with the Simpsons.
While "Hit and Run" was well recieved, the list of horrible Simpson themed games is way too long...
The Simpsons: Skateboarding (lowest rating on any game ever in Game Informer. It scored a -1-.)
The Simpsons: Wrestling
The Simpsons: Road Rage (Crazy Taxi reskinned)
The Simpsons: Bart vs. The Space Mutants
The Simpsons: Virtual Bart
The Simpsons: Bart And The Beanstalk
The Simpsons: Bart vs. The World (Game Gear)
...and I'm sure that there are more...These are just from memory!
Has anyone heard anything in regards to the availability of stackable firewire storage devices for the mini? One would imagine that there are many niches to fill....... USB/Firewire hubs, "Media Center" devices (Video encoding/decoding, remote), Hard drives, battery packs (for portable use), and a million other novelty devices (LED lit aquariums come to mind...;)
If they had firewire passthrough ports, and -exactly- matched the physical characteristics of the mini, one could grow quite a mega-mini! This thing has "upgrade path" written all over it.
It's a long standing tradition among game makers to leave little presentsin the final build of the game, and much like real presents it's up to you whether or not to open them when you should (after you've beaten the game) or to completely destroy the experience by using them early on.
In this age of big business and artificial limitations I find it very refreshing that developers remember where they came from.
Did anyone find it amusing that under his "techniques" section of his resume he had "Social Engineering"? Not sure if I'd put that on a resume... although to some management types it could interpreted as "Excellent Communication Skills"! hehehe...
I swear my neighbors were watching me move into my apartment when they named their AP. The stairs were VERY icy and I was lucky to not DIE falling down them. The first thing I did was look for free wifi (of course) and found it rather amusing when the first AP was "TripAndFall"
Can we please keep it going so that this will be a top-ten thread?
Currently it's 80% politics and religion...
no mod points, so..... Ha ha!

If you're like me, your battery is wearing out anyway and a free (and new) replacement is a pretty good deal!
(If it hasn't exploded yet, it probably wont anyway)
Given the availability of POE switches that can deliver 15.4 watts per port I'd like to see the next Mac Mini rev add POE support to its NIC.
This could mean a one-cable-fed fully functional Mac Mini with network.

There's a pretty fun site about creation myths that consists of 5 minute flash animations! Bite sized and sweet.

Something tells me that will mean the most to the "Pro-Life" movements.
Imagine the confusion when single-celled organisms aren't considered life anymore....
