Not quite true.
There is plenty of other extrachromosomal DNA left in the cell eg. mitochondrial DNA. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitochondrial_DNA Although it does not recombine with chromosomal DNA, it is inherited via maternal line and its mutations have been linked to several genetic disorders http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitochondrial_disease. Therefore it will be interesting to see the effects of animal mitochondrial sequences in a cell with human genome. On the whole, this project seems to be an interesting therapeutic cloning approach iin addition to using transgenic pigs to grow replacement organs.
Dear Sir/Madame I simply applaud you and ask "Do you plan all this carefully or make it up as you go along?"
Thanks for making my evening much brighter.
So what will that mean for all the scientific journal article which are mostly served in PDF format by journal sites. Will we suddenly get topic related Ads in there as well? Great, I can already see those "Get your new Antibody or PCR tube offers" in every journal article you read!
This comment makes me ask a question: What kind of people are **AA execs? Has anyone had a chance to be in one of their meetings where they decide to push their ideas? Finally, has anyone in/. community had a chance to have a discussion with one of those people? What were their first impressions from that conversation(ie. personality, inteeligence wise) and how did those people respond to data that clearly points out that they are stabbing themseves in the foot with their current agenda?
While that number (~50k years) is true for humans, it certainly is not for all the mechanisms that we incorporate. Humans didnt just spring out of nowhere. For example molecular pathways in our cells were being continually adopted for optiumum performance by natural selection for much longer then 50k years. Ergo, id stll agree with parent. Lets be careful before we tinker too much with our design.
I am sorry but this sort of subject just begs for another "ask slashdot" submission called: "What is your monthly electricity bill?" Now seriously, how much would setups like that add to your average power bills.
This image cannot be used for structural modelling of potential inhibitors because its resolution is too low. You need an x-ray crystal structure with Angstrom resolustions to be able to do this (these images have resolution of ~4 nm which is still very impressive for electron microscopy)
However, partial structures of HIV surface proteins (gp120 and gp41) are available but I am not sure if they have been used to model potential inhibitors.
On related note there is a newely FDA licensed inhibitor compound (T20 peptide) that blocks the function of fusion subunit of HIV surface protein (gp41) and it has been developed thanks to the structural information on this protein.
Is this a part of the cycle of the reversal of Earth's magnetic field? I always though that this cycle took much much longer ( but 1/3 of the way down in under 50 years?).
Actually crossing a Mongolian border from Russia by train requires you to go 5 hours forward. However as posts above said keeping with Moscow time for the duration of the journey keeps things simple (that is if you dont mind sun setting at 3 pm)
Only problem is that ISS is not in perfect zero G conditions. Wouldn't micro-gravity conditions as opposed to true zero G still make a difference in manufacturing process of a perfect sphere ?
Now, it will be interesting to compare this gene with previously covered longevity gene discovered in fruit flies - Indy.
What proteins do they encode, what are their roles etc?
Normally, i wouldnt even grace this with an answer, but u should learn to read the whole thread before you post stupid comments like that. I made a mistake and i have corrected it.
Yeah thats the point. Especially good for developing countries since you do not need to keep the doses cold (which is always a problem when delivering vaccines to remote regions)
Explain how is this relevant to off-shoring specifically. Its definitly not anything unexpected...
Viruses were jumping continents since mass transit systems were in place. People were travelling for business purposes for good many years, often got sick and infected entire offices with a flu strain, but somehow i dont see that as worthy of a frontpage.
Although that brings another matter to the focus: Vaccinate before you travel! (yeah i know, none for measles yet... our lab is working on it right now)
Funny that this video has instantly reminded me of UAC promotional videos in Doom3.
I am still waiting for the Elementary Phase Deconstructor!
Approx. ^_^ ^106

What?! Over 35 comments and no single mention of the cone of silence in Herbert's "Dune". Hand over your geek cards now!

Eating habits, effect of lights etc.- who are they kidding? I bet this is the first step in the secret development of Bistromathic drive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bistromathic_drive/

Mr. Burns: "Yes. But I have ten high-priced lawyers."
Typical slashdot. Takes over 30 comments before someone notices that. Goes to show how many people RTFA.
Not, if all they see is pitch dark.

Isnt it obvious? All you need is a second cloaking device to make the fist one invisible...

Science is already open sourced. Does "peer-review" mean nothing to you?

Running a quick and dirty comparison analysis using Genebank BLAST shows no obvious similarities.

its still a work in progress
Forgot about MMR vaccine.
We are working on the edible measles vaccine.
