Escape to the north? With Global Warming(TM) it should be a choice. Hint: in the meantime, learn to club seals- it's all food if it ain't trying to eat You!
All of these posts suggesting 'move somewhere else' seem to be missing the point, and also that mindset contributes to the current problem.
Okay, say we (in the USA), all move to Canada....we will bring the 'cancer' with us, infect Canada with the same ol' BS, then what?
I say fight the infestation where it is, then we can safely annex Canada as per the Fallout series games. (just joking!-WTF with that?)
Oh yes, while I'm on a roll...Kill all the whales, wipe out all rainforests, and invest heavily in petrochem research- fsck all alternative energy!
It seems that MS is overextending themselves with Vista. Not that I care, but for their sake, I hope they haven't pinned all of their hopes on Vista taking the world by storm...I don't see it happening for a while. Too many businesses can't afford all of the hassles of switching to Vista at this point.
And....LOL!...already planning (and announcing it for this year) the first service pack ready before the official release! No thanks, I'll pass.
I am not going to downgrade from Linux to Vista no matter what propaganda MS shits out.
If I go back to a MS OS, it will probably be ms-dos; and I can run dosbox on Linux if I was so inclined, so nevermind!
Plays for Sure may be compatible with more hardware, but on the software (thus DRM) side of things, Plays for Sure is mostly a Microsoft software thing.
You are correct, though...more options (if you use Windows) with Plays for Sure than FairPlay exist for the mainstream user.
Disclaimer: I do not own an iPod, and do not use Windows OS (Kubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake is what I have used since WGA hosed my XP install-yes, it was a legal retail XP CD- (fsck Bill Gates and Steve Balmer!)
I think Norways stance also has to do somewhat with the software side of it (and the hardware).
Make no mistake....both FairPlay and Plays for Sure are about garnering all the market share and profits available, even at the expense of their customers^Wconsumers.
DRM != fair use!
We already had copyright laws BEFORE the internet (and all of it's implimentations), and civil law to deal with copyright infringement; No sense in muddying the waters even more with DRM and DCMA....just your legislator's excuse for job security and lobby kickbacks.
Just the daily air commuter traffic that flows in and out of Maine would be significant.
Moral to this story: Look before you leap, USA; I'm glad Maine looked first, then decided not to leap.
Does Washington have no clue about the nature (and immense nature) of daily air commuting in the northeast USA?...I would think they *should*, but this leaves doubts.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, I read some of the posts at the linked to blogs.msdn.com, and you have people like this koolaidaholic to contend with: (http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/11/02/first -wave-of-localized-ie7-releases-now-available.aspx )

I feel bad I have been such a pest you guys. I really do prefer IE7 to FireFox after using it for the last few days. I apologize for all the trouble I have caused in these forums.
The Microsoft way is clearly the best way and we should not forget it."
Just for the record, I'm with you- I'm running FC5/KDE w/Firefox (or Konqueror-don't matter much to me) because the last time I had to re-install XP, MS decided all of a sudden my retail Pro was pirated, the WGA spyware, activation, etc. just got to be too much of a hassle.
Okay, I get the first three, but tricerotops aand Grenada? (disclaimer: I trained Spl Forces teams to go into Grenada- and yes, it WAS as fscked up as you might have heard!- so I may have a whole different point of view/perspective about Grenada than you may have:-) )
I'm intrigued, especially about the tricerotops, and would appreciate an explaination if you would be so kind. (no sarcasm intended or implied- I'm really curious!)
Uhmm...no. More along the lines of: In Soviet Russia, patents review the community. Or something similar in format. That's the problem with your post...format- it's important- it's the whole point of the *joke*.
Now practice: "In Soviet Russia, (subject/noun) verbs you/convenient scapegoat!"

Make the right choice....for your own sake. Do us proud!
Anymore, I feel more like a lab rat than an actual citizen. Hmm...No wonder "the Matrix" struck me as a horror movie....Hmmm.
I still just cannot quite comprehend Joe Average not getting this (the whole e-voting spectacle in it's current [mis]use!); Damn- how frikkin' dense do ya' gotta be!
Chief Test Monkey and Head Lab Rat signing off with this reminder kiddies: In Soviet^H^H^H^H^H^HDiebold America, machine votes for you.
Now almost 7% of my pr0n will get tagged correctly! That's cool, the rest of it will be like opening xmas presents!

Hmmm...This may be neat when it gets a LITTLE more accurate, but a cool start none the less. Kudus to the gang for getting a grip on a hard problem...erm..nevermind.

Aaahhhh! grasshopper....patience is the key...(and suitable pr0n sites!)...Dazzle 'em with UR L337 Skillz, Sub-divide, and Konquer!!!!
Thanks for the reply.
Had to ask, since I did not know.
Is there some version of "ies4linux" available for OSX?
I think the source should be available to compile...would that work?
Disclaimer:
I use Kubuntu "Dapper Drake", but heard that OSX was based on a BSD/Linux-type kernal.(?)
I married a preacher's daughter, you insensitive clod!
;)
But, yeah...you're right- that's what pulled me in in the first place!
LOL!
No accounting for Joe Sixpack's taste I guess.
It's a shame that the new PC's don't come with no OS...just specify which one you want installed from your friendly neighborhood dealer.
I guess that wouldn't work though as instant gratification isn't fast enough nowdays.
Is anyone but MS ready for Vista?

When I read your comment this is the first thing I thought of:

Beware the little old ladies!!!!
That's easy....
it goes something like this:
sudo apt-get.....
or
sudo yum....

Must be a typo- here's the fix:
"Diebold foils security again"
There, that's more accurate.
Your welcome!
I wouldn't get too enthusiastic just yet.

My only gripe is ATI's Linux driver support.
Cornered....like a rat...danger at every turn!
Darwin's List seems assured of a good genetic pool to recruit candidates from.

just another way to expose more PC's to WGA, if you ask me.
Nope. I can't get enough of a mental grip on this to eve speculate what is going on, but that don't stop me from having a real bad feeling about this.
Thanks to our Cowboy heritage, we ain't got these newfangled eVoting machines here in Oklahoma.....yet.
You might want to add pants to that list.
Wisconsin, huh?
I think I'm giving up cheese.
Too scary to contemplate. If the state's teens feel the need for COld Etheyl(sp? ref:Alice Cooper), who can argue?
