Something that I rarely hear pointed out is that, with copyright as we know it today, Christianity would have died "in the womb.

This is the first time anyone has ever managed to convince me that there are some positives to modern copyright law

How can this be modded insightful? The absence of water suggests it is less likely to support life. How can you (and clearly a few mods) misread a summary? No one is arguing either that: a. Sodium is required for life or even b. That water is required for life. Simply that the absence of sodium makes water less likely and the absence of water makes life less likely. Given a finite budget and so a finite number of bodies we can visit it make sense to prioritize where we go based on *assumptions* about the conditions that make life more *likely*.

  5. Isn't it liable regardless? on Texas Family 'Sues Creative Commons' · · Score: 1

There is something I don't understand here. Lets suppose that the photographer had the right to license that image under creative commons, does that really mean people can do whatever they want with that photo? I mean, if I take a photo of myself, put in under a CC license, does that then mean someone can write "This is a picture of a child molester" under it and not be subject for liable? I think that is the key issue here, whether or not they had the right to use the photo per se, they [Virgin] had no right to use it in a way that could be reasonably foreseen to cause stress and harm to the person in the photo. Perhaps the case against CC is that it does not provide reasonable exclusions for just such a scenario.

I'd love to know where you 'facts' that conroe yields are low and that there are supply problems come from. Intel has its issues - but last I heard - yields were good, and intel don't tend to have supply problems. What you say about the Osborne Effect is true - but it applies doubly to AMD. It's clear that Intel has changed gears, and as a large company is out to "smite" the smaller competition.

I thought I'd check the authoritative source - the dictionary. It quite clearly states, in many definitions on dictionary.com, that theft includes not only property but also theft of services.

    Where? Which definition?

I looked under the definition of theft, it said it is "stealing" or "larceny" I looked under the definition of stealing and larceny, and for both it said that it is in some way "The unlawful taking and removing"

Then I looked under the definition of Troll, and guess what? I found you.

Exactly - I don't own a legal copy of Windows nor will I ever buy one. But I really truelly hope Microsoft finally put an end to piracy or at least make their pirated copies as useless as possible. It is exactly the push alternate OS's need. Unfortunately I think microsoft recognize this on some level and a fairly simple workaround will be available. I would say that the move is another attempt at targeting ma and pa types who just didn't know that their copy is illegal. Thus the result would be a little more money in MS cofers and no major change in the status-quo (aside from an even bigger advantage to PC makers who have OEMs with MS).
