The only way I was able to tell on Opera (8.00, build 7401) that the site was a fake was to look at the console log of my http://www.privoxy.org/ web proxy.
It showed:

I'd rather he charge non-monopolistic prices for Microsoft products, and allow me to donate the money I would save to the charities I prefer to support.
I've used both the Mac and Windows versions. I agree, the Windows version is better than the Mac, it seems that the Mac version is about a year behind the Windows version. The Mac version has all that I need.
Look at the software included with the Mac Mini. As I have stated here earlier, the main reason I keep Windows on my desktop was that it runs Quicken on an inexpensive box. Now the Mac Mini, because a full copy of Quicken 2005 is included in the base package, can take that spot on my desk.
And all that other cool multimedia software that is included is just icing on the cake.
Not, pro MSN in any way, but have you actually tried to replicate this?
Yes. At the time, I went to MSN search, and entered XFree86 into the search field, and received a list of porn sites. Then I entered XFree85 and XFree87 (one at a time) to see if any porn sites were returned. None were.
A little curiosity... if you go to http://search.msn.com/ and search for 'XFree86', it tells you that you've 'entered a search term that is likely to return adult content, and directs you to the porn search engine NightSurf.com, which lists some porn sites that ostensibly match the term 'XFree86'.
If you search for 'XFree86' on Google, however, the top matching terms returned by a normal search, are XFree86 sites, and not porn sites.
The other curiosity is that if you search something like 'XFree87', the research reports correct results. Why this?
The Linux community does donate to charities around the world. How many not-for-profit organizations use Open Source software? As a rough guess, I'd say that the Open Source community has donated, with their time and the software, an amount far greater than the $750 million that Gate has donated.
Let's see if the Linux community can match his generosity.
Gates' wealth comes from the exploitation of an illegal monopoly. Does the fact that he is using money obtained via an illegal monopoly for vaccines diminish the crime of the illegal monopoly?
I would rather the people whom Gates' exploited decide how they would like their money to be spent. They are, after all, the ones who earned that money, Gates' merely stole it from them.
Wouldn't Corbis change the description to something more suitable for Gates' current status?
When Microsoft bought Funk and Wagnels encyclopedia and made it into Encarta, one of the items that was changed was the entry for Gates. It was made much more flattering than it originally was.
All-in-one is nice, providing the additional features are not added with the cost of allowing bugs and deficiencies in the core functionality to go unfixed.
a falling usage rate for opera, from 2.3% to 1.9% - almost a 20% drop.
The Opera [the browser] is turning into a bloated mass of buggy features. Opera [the company] has lost its rudder.
Once they started to add in an email client instead of fixing the bugs in the browser feature-set, I knew that they were going to be an also-ran once a real alternative to IE appeared.
I can remember when rotary dial phones were items of everyday use,
I used to pick up the phone, wait for the operator to say, "Number please.", then tell her what number I wanted. Usually I only had to say the last four digits of the number, because everyone in my neighborhood was on the same exchange.
HP is willing to export technical jobs around the world in order to take advantage of less expensive labor in, for example, India. Yet HP denies their customers that very same capability, i.e., shop around the world for the best prices on goods.
If anything, he's positioning MS so that Windows isn't it's make or break product.
So far he has failed. There is no new growth product in sight. The stock price has stagnated for years. Microsoft is losing out on the emerging markets. Microsoft is still reliant upon Windows and Office for profits. None of the new divisions are producing anywhere near the growth necessary for maintain the current p/e ratio for the MSFT stock.
The stock price has been in a rut for years, the only positive has been the large cash payout to stockholders. Microsoft has yet to find the next growth opporunity that will replace the very mature operating system and office cash cows. Microsoft is losing ground in the next huge growth market, China, to Linux.
I'd say that the past five years have been a failure for Ballmer. All Microsoft has done on his watch is tread water.
That was the last Windows program that was holding me on Windows. Now I can get a supported version of Quicken on a reasonably priced computer, and leave the Windows trojans and spyware behind.
Visiting the Opera beta newsgroup, I saw many old bugs that still have not been fixed. Yet Opera continues to bulk up what once was a sleek browser with gratuitious features.
Those who the Gods want to destroy, they give more features.
The curent plasmas have pushed that time closer to nine years. Even though the 'two-year dimming plague' affected only plasmas that were made more than two or three years ago, the stigma lives on.
Microsoft needs non-public backroom agreements in order to get their software accepted. Plus some loose money here and there (a la Ed Black and the CCIA) always seems to help Microsoft get their software in place.
"You'll never see TiVo roll out any kind of intrusive advertising," [Davina] Kent[, TiVo's advertising and research sales manager,] says. "It's very core to our mission."
It appears to me that TiVo has strayed off course of their mission. Pop-up banners while I am fast-forwarding is intrusive.

Something was major fishy.

Now, when am I going to see this capacity in my iPod? ...
It's always better in the next version. Never mind that the next version won't be here for two years at least, but it will be better.

Probably because their PCs won't boot after applying SP2. :)
