  1. That's a great question. This whole Windows 10 disaster is a supernova black-eye for Microsoft. It will be a long, long time before Microsoft will have earned back the major trust they lost. And mea culpa blog entries buried in the holiday season are not the way for Microsoft to earn back the lost trust.

    Seriously... when Microsoft has to change the fundamental operations of Windows UI controls, going against the published guidelines of how those controls should work, the users are not "too fucking stupid" when they expect Windows controls to operate as they always have operated.

    giving away Windows free of monetary cost, and using what seemed to be malware-like tactics to trick Microsoft customers into installing Windows 10 even if they did not want to, Window 10 has less than a 25% marketshare?

    Surely this cannot be seen as a success, even by the rose-coloured glasses that Microsoft PR usually looks through.

    It is a colossal failure.

    Is there any wonder why these particular two companies are at the top of the list? If Microsoft's forced march towards Windows 10 data harvesting had not pissed off so many people, Microsoft might have even been noticed as well.

    In addition to hacking the DNC, the RNC was also hacked. Though those RNC emails were not made public.

    There is ample evidence of Russia doing similar things in other countries.

    We were attacked, yet some choose to trivialize it as a political issue, instead of realizing that our election process, the basis of democracy in our our Republic, was attacked.

    So long as the OEMs continue to control whether or not, and when, security patches are installed, Google can claim all the control they want. But they do not have that control. Android customers are left in the lurch, subject to the whims of the OEMs and to security issues from unpatched vulnerabilities.

    At one time, I had used my cell for SMS 2FA. Within a couple of days of giving my cell number out for 2FA, I started to get spam text messages and calls.

    I've since switch my cell number and no longer use SMS 2FA.

    The problem with using SMS 2FA is that too many advertisers and other trackers want your cell number for tracking and spamming purposes, and there is no way to assure the cell number will not spread beyond the intended 2FA purpose.

    For example, TBS's comedy show People of Earth had only 10 episodes.

    Many of the cable-network scripted shows have only 6 to 10 episodes per season.

    So long as statements such as the one I quoted need to exist, Firefox is not coming back.

    The developers still appear to think they know better, as they slowly turn Firefox into a Chrome clone.

    Mozilla had the golden ring, but they dropped it.

    Apple can say all it wants about how important the Mac lineup is to the company. However, Apple's actions tell an entirely different story. The Mac lineup is being neglected in favor of the glitzy gadgets that now make up Apple's innovative output.

    The Mac lineup looks to be on life-support, if not completely abandoned, at this point.

    Anyone looking at a move to the Mac should really examine their decision process to assure it takes into account long-term viability of the product line.

    For this past year, it has appeared that Apple is only interested in doing the bare minimum to string along current Mac customers. Innovation costs money, and Apple is clearly not looking as if it wants to commit innovation money to the Mac line anymore.

    Geesh. Given the history of yahoo attacks and their announcements, give it a few weeks and then we'll probably see yet another announcement from yahoo about how hackers got bank account info and payment data. It has become apparent that Yahoo may not possess the ability to run an online portal securely.

    That is the business model that was used by print magazines. Subscription costs did not cover the cost of publishing, ad costs did. The purchasers of ad space were buying access to the eyeballs of the subscribers, and paying for the publication of the magazine.

    Wall Street investors want year-over-year profit increases. It is far easier for Comcast to just raise these fees (which really should be a part of the quoted price for the cable TV package) than it is for Comcast to spend money on things that make its customers happy (like quality customer service) and more willing to buy more Comcast products.
