Call it a "Christian Road Trip" if you like, but if they have able hands, there is plenty to do that doesn't involve volunteering at some shelter.
Just using the phrase "Christian Road Trip" makes you sound like an anti-Christain bigot. Maybe you'd have more respect for them if it was a bus-load of Muslims.
I bet you can't wait for those wonderful usage taxes the UN will start applying to your internet account. God help you if you are a private citizen who runs a web site... You'll be taxed by the UN into oblivion. This isn't about DNS, this is about money. The UN has been trying to levy a global tax for years. Here is their chance.
All over now? Really? Well, tell that to Waveland, MS, which is practically gone. Tell that to the owners of the 65,000+ homes that were completely destroyed on the MS Gulf Coast. Tell that to the people down here who still wait for hours to get food at what few stores that are open. Tell that to all the elderly people who still have fallen trees in their yards with no one to help remove them unless they pay some inflated price. Tell that to the people who had damage to their power meters or power masts who have to pay close to 2,000 bucks to have something repaired that would normally cost $500. Tell that to the thousands who lost the vehicles and can't get to what few stores are open to get diapers and formula.
Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, Waveland, Long Beach, Gulfport (where I live) and Biloxi still have plenty of people in need. They aren't freeloaders... they've been traumatized and certianly aren't getting much help in a timely manner from the Red Cross or FEMA. They sure as hell aren't what I would consider "free-loaders"; though there certainly are some lurking about. Those are easy to spot... since they are the ones acting like somebody owes them something.
My family has recovered. We're better off than a lot of people. We are helping as we can. But, if this guy and his crew want to come down here and help... Welcome! If it makes them feel good about themselves in the process... excellent. I sure wouldn't want them to come down here to help if it made them feel bad about themselves.
Since New Orleans didn't get the brunt of Katrina, I can see why you feel that way. Your damage came from the levees, and your state and local governments, failing. Mississippi got the full force of Katrina. All New Orleans got was an attitude problem.
For those interested, here are some pics from some of those areas me, my wife and a friend took:
Thank you. Believe me, we have. But, FEMA told me it could be a month before we may or may not see any kind of financial assistance from any agency... govt. or otherwise. Look at how long it took them to do anything in New Orleans. I was a "desparate father" appealing to the online community for help. I got nothing but grief from the cynics here at Slashdot. I know where not to ask if another tragedy befalls my family in the future. Which dissappoints me... seems like everybody here has an opinion about how to fix everything... but, when one lone person asks for help in crisis, all I got was attitude.
I've had about $265 in donations. I don't need anymore. That will be plenty to keep my kids fed until we can get more help.
Assholes like Rick and Roll can easily go to my website and see that I'm not a crook... just a guy trying to make ends meet and raise a family. I got the help I needed... wasn't looking to raise a million bucks when others need help too.
As far as asking my extended family... they are in as much need of help as I am right now... so, that won't work.
Just remember one thing about giving money to Red Cross... a lot of the money the collected under the guise of assiting the victims of 9/11 never got anywhere near those people... it went to countries overseas.
And, all you cock-suckers who think America and the South "deserved what they got"... you just wait... your time is coming. Natural Disasters don't do politics. Only a complete moron would see this as retribution over Iraq or whatever. I thought you Slashdotters were smarter than that.
I guess not.
Personally, I don't live my life thinking everybody is out to get one over on me. But, that's what it is to live in the South. If you think the world is shit and everyone is evil, then that is all you will ever see.
You know, if you don't trust me or don't want to help, that's fine. Do nothing.
At the very least, spare me your snide comments. I just watched my home town of 40 years practically blow away with the sand... having jerks rub salt in the wounds we received by making hateful comments is just plain evil. I've seen enough evil for one week...
This was a horrific storm. Worse than Hurricane Camille by leaps and bounds. I'm sure you've all seen the anarchy in New Orleans. It is not like that on the MS Coast. But, it is still very, very bad.
It pains me to ask, but if anybody could help my family with some paypal donations it would be appreciated beyond my words to explain. I don't normally ask for hand-outs... but we seriously need help. We've fled to Jackson since the storm because of the threat of malaria and cholera (sp?)... almost didn't make it here because there was practically no gas. We are currently staying with friends... but, can't stay here forever.
We have major roof damage with no insurance and the house is unlivable. I was supposed to have a paycheck direct deposited, but it never showed up. At this point, I don't know if it will. If anybody can help us with a few dollars through my paypal donate button on my website I would be truly thankful. I'm not looking for tons of money, just enough to help me and my wife and kids get through the next couple of weeks.
That's a lot of revenue streams, but they don't add up to enough.
You can NEVER have too many revenue streams. Everybody complains about too much advertising... people do it because it works. Let them bitch. They'll come back if you are giving them what they want... pop-ups, flash banner ads or not. Make it clear you want their freaking money and be done with it.
Put a big, fat PAYPAL DONATE button and every single page. Link to every piece of crap you can think of that your visitors might be interested in... not just Quantum Physics. Even Physicists need penis enlargers and mortgages. Hell, find a place that sells condoms with nuclear radiation symbols or whirling atoms on them. Can you say, "Glow-in-the-dark Condoms"???;-)
Affilliate, affilliate, affilliate...
There is no shame in advertising on your own website. Just don't be a frakking spammer. They suck.
I am a Republican and I am against the death penalty. The government should never be able to take the life of one of it's citizens regardless of the crime. Break rocks for life... but government-sanctioned murder is wrong.
I am also against the use of abortion as a method of birth control... but, not completely against abortion per se. It is too easy today to NOT become pregnant and still screw. So, abortion is a cop-out for lazy fornicators.
Either way, those are personal opinions that don't influence how I vote in elections; mostly...
The powers that be have yet to demonstrate that a "illegal" music download translates into a lost sale... as consumers, we've been encouraged to copy and share music since the advent of the cassette tape.
Collectors collect. People who download music and don't buy the album would never have bought the album in the first place.
I've always found it ironic that a company like Disney, who made tons of moolah using works that had fallen to the public domain, are the first to sue day care centers and such for painting Mickey Mouse on the wall. They wouldn't be where they are today were it not for the public domain.
I believe all copywritten works should go to the public domain after 20 years. Period. That should be plenty of time to make money off your work. And if you don't make any money, then it should pass to the public domain so someone else can take it and maybe make some money off of it.
The majority of artists/musicians/filmakers/writers never get rich from their work. (Like me!!!) I would imagine that in the public domain, you might have another chance to get some recognition for your art. If you didn't make any money, letting somebody else alter it and re-package it could help you receive some recognition and lead to some $$$ for your other works. Maybe... what do I know... I'm a peasant.
I asked my Grandfather 30 years ago why some of the popcorn didn't pop and he told me that the kernels were already cracked and couldn't explode. What a waste of research $$$.
It has been awfully fun reading all of you ACs personal attacks on me. Not one of you had anything substantive to say... I've read tons of great arguments here about Kyoto - pro and con... but, hate-filled FASCISTS like you ACs just strengthen my beliefs that Kyoto is just a way for the U.N. to punish the U.S. for not falling in-line with their globalist desires.
Actually, I am a Sasquatch living on Mars. My wife is Margaret Thatcher and we have 18 children... all quite hairy.
Of course, no one here knows anything about you because you are an Anonymous Coward... I, on the other hand, am not.
I am a so-called "real Republican"... I don't know what or who you are because you are too afraid to reveal yourself.
I don't live in fantasy land... but, I've visited it many times. There is one in Disney World and in Disney Land. You should check it out... if you have the money to get in.
Just using the phrase "Christian Road Trip" makes you sound like an anti-Christain bigot. Maybe you'd have more respect for them if it was a bus-load of Muslims.

Didn't expect to find it here at Slashdot.
I'm sorry you feel that way. We've had enough trauma... wouldn't want to inconvenience people like you.

How come the Feds haven't sued Adobe for enabling counterfeiters all over the world? Or the makers of color image scanners, for that matter.

I hate Opera... all those fat women wearing Viking Helmets just gross me out.
