    if everyone in the world would take this approach it might just solve terrorism, genocide, arms escalation, etc. just might speed the rate at which civilization advances. i will never understand why man has to have dominance over other men.

    i was given a copies of HOA's when inquiring about homes in neighborhoods that have them. besides, if you are spending that much money on something do some research on if there is an HOA and what that beautiful vacant lot off of your back yard is going to be in 6 months.

    google earth + google sketchup pro are good things. anything done in sketchup can be exported out to 3d modeling tools and cad - and visa versa really. i dont think that you ahve to dress up sketchup for typical presentations to the local drc/arc/whatevercommittee. i have put together good models and put them into google earth. when the background is grey masses and one detailed model, it gets lots of ooh and ahhs.

    we need to start an architects spelling/grammar improvement fund.

    lastly i wouldnt say lack of urban planners is the problem, but zoneing regulations that encourage bland buildings.. ...color cannot be over this or that value on munsell. only this/that material etc. many designers have their brains freeze at 200+ pages of regs and just follow the lists... it is unfortunate.

    my cell phone battery charges off of the usb connection. it can give a nice little boost to the battery while at work or if i am out and i have my lappy plugged in someplace.

    Eh? i have heard of thrid places before but never this howard schultz guy. i think the concept of third places it attributed to ray oldenburg. though the practice has been around a lot longer. video game related link

    I don't know why they haven't caught on

    they are coming. they are just expensive now. it is hard getting people to pay even 5$ for a decent cf that saves money and lasts a long time. that written, i have spec'd them in some high-end projects for mood (colors, effects) lighting.

    (Countries like Australia are a similar size to the US minus alaska, but with a population of only 20 million if you want to play the 'big open country' game).

    right, but 50% of australia's population lives in 5 cities - 75% in 15 cities. in the u.s. 6% of the population lives in the 5 largest cities. not only do you have to look at land mass but also population distribution and localized density.

    With Windows Vista, the operating system will make "shadow" (that is, backup) copies of files and folders for users who have "System Protection" enabled (the default setting).

    In Windows Vista, each partition that is protected by "System Restore" requires at least 300MB of space, and may use up to 15 percent of the available space on a partition to store previous versions of files. In the event that more space is required, the service will delete older restore points to make room for new ones.

    i had some major cutomer service issues at a best buy recently. to make up for it the manager printed out a list of everything i had purchased at any best buy in the past 2 years or so. he then refunded the me the purchase price of one of my larger purchases to compensate me for the damage to my laptop - a couple hundred bucks. so best buy tracks what i buy.

    also, i have returned things using only my credit card at target. the clerk swipes my card, scans the item and says: oh, you bought that on such and such date.

    i have no loyalty or store credit cards at either store.

    it is extremely hard, but it can be repaired. there was one scay reboot, but everything panned out for me. there are .zips out there that contain the directory you need. this may get you started. i cant recall if those where the only steps i took or not. i remember forcing an install of ie6 via the command prompt and doing a couple regedits - not sure if those where dead-ends or not. if you search the forums enough you can fix it. i did after the guy who doesnt know what he doesnt know ran cleanup utility and deleted a bunch of information he didnt think he needed.

    the idea of using electricity to heal is potentially very old. i recall a battery being part of a ancient mid-east healers kit being mentioned on nova once.

    also, on the show 'lost' the island has a big magnetic field that appears to crash planes and heal people.

    it is because of thinking just like this that the system was set up the way it was. the founders didnt want 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what was going to be for dinner. i think the one of the tenants of our founders was an idea to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority. it is interesting to me that the people who keep bringing up this popular election idea are those on the 'protect the little guy' left.

    except for questionable fashion sense, i think the founders of the usa were brilliant.

    it is a 'free' samsung sgh-t809. and yeah, you are understanding me correctly. i havent looked into, just read this out of the manual:

    Set as: allows you to set the MP3 as an alarm tone. MP3 files with DRM (Digital Rights Management) can also be used as a ringtone and a caller ringtone, while files without DRM can only be used as an alarmtone.

    though i just found this discussion on a workaround i shouldnt have to jump through hoops to use my device. in the past drm has been invisible. (being forced to watch previews on dvds sucks too btw. now i just pop in the disc and do something for 5 or 10 minutes.)

    it is the engine design on a harley that is patented (i think) and makes the signature sound.

    DRM will be even more common next decade

    i am not so sure. in the past i didnt really care about drm, thought it was a boogie man. then i got a new cell phone. the manual says i can put mp3s as a ring tone - so long as they have the right drm. wtf? granted i only use the vibrate alert. also, i can still record obscure audio clips for my voice mail. but anyway, the point is that if my phone has the ability to play mp3s and use them as a ring tones, i dont want to have to buy those tracks again.

    i think more and more consumers will pick up on this and drm will fail.
