If they stated fact, and fact only then fine. But when you use those facts to push your own, or your sponsors political, financial or medical agenda then that magazine has relegated itself to near tabloid usefulness.
They can't be blamed too much for it though. They have to stay in business somehow and most all legitimate readership has gone online so money cannot be generated by ads alone.
Magazines have recently become propaganda tools pushing a marketing agenda to pay it's bills these days. Most any trade magazine these days aren't informative, but rather written to promote xy or z.
I have been in this industry more than 15 years, Including supporting a full Mac pre-press outfit. I stand by my statement. Also, the prices I quoted *WERE* Ebay prices. Anything else we could afford to build our own PC's. And we did.
If a Mac is doing everything your asking a Mac to do, then I can only assume you aren't expecting much.
Just to get my two cents in, it's also useful when all you have is damaged hardware to start with, Having access to that bios means I can lower certain speeds or increase wait states until things work again. CPU got a little too hot and BSOD's windows? Slow it down until it's stable. Ram going bad? Increase CAS and or RAS Serial Ports bad (Yea who uses them anymore right? ) Disable them, add a card and get the equipment hooked back up.
Mac? I had to support a Mac only environment for the past two years, on to a better job now thank you. When a Mac dies, there's no options. Power supply? $200+. Power supply for a PC ? $50. Mac lovers can worship their shiny white... equipment... The reality of the professional working world is the Mac is eye candy, and only useful for performing work the same way a cooper mini is useful for hauling lumber. It's compact and cute, but don't expect to move much in it.
So if it uses that much less power on laptops then PC's must experience the same reduction in power consumption. It sounds to me like banning flash altogether might help in reducing carbon emissions.
This wasn't a troll, but I know I just stomped on an anthill...
True enough, but when you haven't left the country US civilization is still 100% of the civilization you *know*, or would refer to. leaving the country for a year or two wouldn't count.
In radio, studios will have employee's call in to new shows pretending to be the average Joe in order to create the impression of an active product. Newspapers in this respect are no different, in beefing up the numbers.
Everyone needs to keep in mind that anything heard on the radio, seen on the TV or read in print belongs to the entertainment industry.
Having worked in this industry myself I can vouch not only for the insanity and complexity, but the brutality savage political combat that ensues just to maintain existing 'stovepipes'.
It's pathetic to behold, and a wonder we still have a nation at all.
What the OP fails to realize is that a good percentage of computers in government and scientific circles are still running those character sets. Satellites Oceanographic Buoys, Launch systems, Modern weaponry, Avionics, etc.
There is no quick fix, and chances are we are stuck with it. - Deal.
I can see that leading to a torrid gay porn flick ala "28 days later". Bumping butts with an 'infected' individual in turn infects you and the process goes on until everyone is playing robot unicorn attack.
I love the comment about the comfort zones, and I know that those that are motivated don't have an issue crossing comfort zones. I went from making 80k+ as a Navy Contractor, to Driving a Tow Truck, then back to network admin, but at far below market.
I have *just* Recently Fixed that situation towards the better, and I still have my nads. *Grin*.
As an addendum, I ran the tow company too. When interviewing for my replacement I met people with degree's and major experience in IT, all trying to drive a tow truck and get woke up all hours of the night. So, Jobs in the IT sector were, and are in the cropper. In Florida at the time anyways.
Never Assume. Cause I felt the same way until I experienced it myself.
Or he's getting ready to bail from a company about to tank, didn't they just lose the CEO puppet?

Opinion is not fact.

I agree, it's not the optimal situation, but when you're force to keep things running without a budget...

What's going to collapse civilization is litigation. Everything is going to be illegal, or we will all be lawless.
