While generally they are not fighting for first place in the quality stakes, they do have a very compelling price/performance set of offerings, the top end of the market is rarely going to be the highest volume of sales, it is the middle and low end where LG play that garner the high sales, they even sell some of there panels to Sony for there bravia range I believe? at least I remember some articles about that happening a year or 2 ago.
There are very few large scale LCD manufacturers. Arguably the 2 biggest names are Sharp and Samsung, Apple are actively pushing away from Samsung and looking to Sharp so it would be very nasty for apple. The collapse of Sharp would have a big impact on who makes your tablet, smartphone and television screens in future and potentially the market prices of those devices as shortages or lack of competition will potentially affect prices.
Stores often calibrate displays according to what they are currently trying to push. using tricks such as lower res vs high res video, warm colours and poor calibration to guide you to what they want you to buy. Always check online before browsing displays for real agnostic reviews.
Ordering the apology be put on their web page was done so that customers would see the apology, it is therefore apparent that the court wanted the apology to be plainly visible. Public apologies are ordered by the courts all the time and screwing around with them even while remaining within the strict letter of the order is blatant contempt of court and is generally treated severely by the courts. Add to that, apple seem to have removed the redirect from the US site to the UK one it becomes more obvious that apples intention here is to go against the spirit of the order by ensuring as few people see it as possible. Apple are playing chicken with the courts, somehow I don't think the courts will swerve first.
The surface is THINNER not thicket, seems to have better build quality and weighs approximately the same as an Ipad, the ipad does have a better screen though. It also comes with a keyboard and useful ports
Apple don't make display's, So no they have NOT produced displays better than anyone elses, they have simply rebadged displays made by the big manufacturers. There are only 3 or 4 large display manufacturers in the world that supply everyone.
Borderlands is NOT a MS product. The only MS product really involved here is the console and that has been specifically modded to ignore the hacked data.
The problem won't be the hardware, it will be the same problem that IA64 had, hardware is great but without the server software designed for it they are just expensive paper weights.
What yahoo is doing is 100% INCORRECT. they are ignoring the standard, MS was within the standard up until they changed the standard a few weeks ago with the express intent to make what MS was doing out of spec. When win 8 went RTM they were within spec. The standard is being written to expressly protect privacy invasive behaviour so it isn't suprising that the scumbags writing it changed it when they saw people would actually use. The standard was never intended to protect people, it was intended to protect advertisers from governments cracking down on them.
Microsoft follows the spec just fine, They give the users a choice at setup for enabling the DNT, but scumbag advertisers and those bought out by them in the industry never had any intention of this being an effective means to prevent tracking. The intention was to slap lipstick on the privacy pig so they could tell regulators that there is no need to crack down on them. Unfortunately MS has spoiled there little butt fucking party by making it easy for the user to make the intelligent choice.
They do that even with the DNT cookie, DNT is purely a do not send me targeted ads, they are still allowed to track you even while honouring DNT. The whole DNT thing is pointless and whoever came up with it as a way to move forward should be lined up and shot.
There is NOTHING illegal here. please point out what I am doing that is illegal? If it is illegal to go via a VPN, then half of the world organisations and governments are also doing something illegal as NATing proxies are the norm everywhere.
The Australian situation is slightly different. Prices have always been high here, There is definitely some justification for that in the past given shipping costs, higher wages and low currency conversion rate. However over the past few years this has changed significantly and some sectors like the tech sectors are using this as an opportunity to cream extra margins at the expense of the consumer, effectively prices have increased relative to the rest of the world here by something in the order of 25-50% over the past few years, add in the fact most of these companies use off shore distributers to avoid our high tax rates here and you get the situation where the consumer and the country as a whole are actually being drained by large foreign companies. Sadly most of our local companies use the foreign companies as examples of how to do business and put the boot in too, even to the extent where you have some of the big retailers here lobbying the government to block people from being able to buy internationally over the internet by charging higher taxes on imports.
But we are not misrepresenting at all, I am legitimately utilising a VPN Service. I am not saying I am something I am not. It isn't our fault companies are morons and rely on a VPN address to try and work out what country I am from. IP Addressing was never intended for this use.
It seems more a case of every companies excuse is they charge what everyone else charges, some try and argue it is the cost of wages here, but Australian online retailers do the same exhorbitant rates. Then you have a few that claim. "Oh we set our prices when the Aussie dollar was much lower and have not gotten around to re-evaluating the prices yet but we will get to it in due time"
I started bypassing the GEO-Blocking from Australia 6 months ago. previously I was paying $125 a month for foxtel (Australian pay TV). I now stream Netflix, Vudu and Hulu giving me access to a movie and TV library many times the size for a fraction of the cost. I have no objection to paying for my content, I do object to the extortionate rates they try and charge us here though. I order my games internationally as well as camera gear and many other items retailers here believe we should pay 100% markup for just for the privilege of shopping here.
The benefit to knowing how to program is not just being able to identify what can be automated, it is about understanding what is happening under the covers which can greatly increase your ability to troubleshoot and identify weaknesses before they become issues.
If it has traded performance for power efficiency why the hell does the battery life on it still suck? It has the equivalent of a smartphone processing capacity but the battery life of a moderate laptop.
The problem it solves is Google losing clicks on ads as the shift in device usage has really made it harder and harder for them to maintain growth (just look at todays Q1 financials for them). They need something that they can use to control the end users screen, cloud based computing vendor lock-in is their approach. looks more like pissing in the wind to me. To crappy to compete with Apple or MS and if you wanted cheap and functional you can build something better with Android or *nix that's far more functional while still being able to use the "cloud".
It doesn't. It appears to not compete with anything. It is too expensive compared to other cheap functional options. Lacks performance and functionality of similarly priced devices and has kinda average battery and screen quality. I don't actually see any market for this device.
how is he a victim here? The Pro version of surface IS a fully blown version that will run your win 7 software just fine. Only the RT version has the walled garden restrictions
This is the consumer aimed one, while I agree the enterprise targeted surface actually looks compelling I think the Surface RT needed a price differentiator in addition to its feature set. Will be interesting to see how it goes but I think the price will block it from being a success

This is one step further than kicking the dead horse. Surely necrophilia laws have to kick in now.
If you take a look they actually have the vast majority of top tier apps as well. last look it was something like 90% of the top tier apps.
The problem won't be the hardware, it will be the same problem that IA64 had, hardware is great but without the server software designed for it they are just expensive paper weights.
I don't much like the litigious nature that has invaded our society But... I hope he sues their arses off.
