/. News says: Maybe it's a good time to question the wisdom of issuing expensive electronics to students in the first place, though I'm sure the calculator companies would rather you didn't.
Well, maybe it's time to reconsider if students need pencil-and-paper in a techno age that even a mobil phone has a calculator.
Why not show them what they can achieve with the calculator rather than how to achieve what the calculator does?
Till recently I used almost the same thing, provided by an ISP in Spain. The way it worked was like this: - The ISP sends you html pages compressed. - The ISP sends you *.jpg files compressed to your own choice of compression ratio. - The ISP sends you *.gif files compressed without animations.
The html pages, are sent compressed, you localy have a program that acts as a proxy or something like that, then it decompresses it. The program also lets you set image compression ratio and all that.
It even compresses pictures inside flash files!
The result? Much quicker browsing with less browsing. If at any time you want to see the original picture you can just quickly change settings.
You can view a presentation of it here: http://www.wanadoo.es/acelerador/micrositio .html (in Spanish)
Well, as a starter, most of these fraudalent sites work IP based because they dont have the real domain. So I'm guessing this problem you mention would not happen if you just attack the IP. When you attack the IP you'd be attacking their server, even if they point their domains to some other site.
Check out their results from suing: 1. They get paid loads of money. 2. There are no more competing AdSense results. 3. Official site ranked first in Google results.
GEICO vs Google: Google wins. GEICO vs the Advertisers: who wins?
I have an insurance website, we do not use trademark names of insurances we sell in fear they sue us. To me it doesnt make sense, in the end you are helping them sell more, but insurance companies have this kind of philosophy.
I dont know GEICO (I guess it's US based), but say I was selling GEICO insurances, and I used Google adwords... now that GEICO cant go after Google, what prevents it from going after me?
This is something that instead of being asked here should be asked at the Mozilla Firefox forums. There are lots of people who will be happy to help you.
If you believe you have found a bug, you should search if anyone has reported that bug, and if not report it here.
Sorry, but its almost offensive to see this at slashdot.
I see many posts saying it's probably as a result of an outdated index. It's not!
Proof?
Some of the images that they do have are from articles of recent as June.
Just look at the article dates. Some are really old, but some are rather "recent". Some of the articles where the pictures are found are even talking about the scandal!
I wonder why the rover doesnt have a self-cleaning system? Didnt anyone at NASA ever think about it????
If it's going to get dirty, and you need it clean to generate energy... why not build a cleaning system????
As it is, it's so pathetic that martians had compassion of us for not including a cleaning system. So much money into it and you cant include a cleaning system???
Well, you could change Firefox's user agent to IE, but though you get a little further and dont get that message, you dont get much further:
It simply says it is looking for updates, and that goes on forever.
lol, obvioussly it's a made up number.
Could someone be so kind to check if my credit card number was exposed?
;-)
My cc number is 5122-5655-1459-0444.
Reverse code: 444
If it was exposed I want to cancel it so the hacker cant use it.
Thanks.
Yeah, right, exactly....

So in theory, we could visually be seeing different things, great. Too bad we cant hear the two movies at the same time or we'd go crazy.
Anyway, this would be great for applications like multiplayer games, where we'd basically be hearing the same sound.
...yes, headphones... will you really wear them at home?
Wow, thanks... :-)
This looks like somethinig I could use
(Note to others: it's not a calendar, more like a notepad with multiple files/trees).

I have one, take a look and see.
Grandma can send her morse code faster than I can type it in my phone, but the problem is...
==>> Who can read her????
Haha! I already defaced it last night.
:-)
I put up on their page a fake hack contest...
I never really thought it would last soo long and even less being on slashdot.
lol

If they'd merge there would be less compitition and therefore less need to improve... it wouldnt benefit us users at all.
Yes...
:-)
Here's the manual fix:
When you visit the page hit "Control +" and then "Control -" and problem resolved.
There is also an extension fix for Slashdot, lol.

Interesting. I'd like to know what fellow slashdot users think of the World Community Grid on these bio patent issues.

The mentioned contest is CLAWAR 2004 - MADRID . (See hundreds of pictures if you wish).
It's part of CLAWAR Climbing and Walking Robots. As you can see, the mentioned robot had a very different design from the usual spider-like design.
