I've been wishing for this ever since iTMS came out... but I think bandwidth is an issue.... and a way to play it... no one likes watching movies on their computer and people don't want to mess with wires to hook their computer up to their tv all the time. Apple needs to get their ass in gear and finally release the iHome (aka the Apple Home Media Center) so that we can download the movies to their and watch them automatically on our tv. Unfortunately, if this happens, there will be DRM in the media.... so it will a pain in the ass to play the content on my mythTV.

I just automatically thought of the episode when I read your post. I agree that its sad that this counts as bold. I wish more media was politically charged. America is just so full of people who are either apathetic, know only the talking points of parties (meaning they don't want to think for themselves), or extremists. Nobody talks about politics or others up opinions. Our mainstream entertainment industry barely touches political topics and I find that a shame. I wish more entertainment would attempt to provoke discussion. Provoking discussion allows people to make up their own minds easier and not rely solely on one party's talking points because rarely is anybody perfectly represented by one party. The media loved discussing the red & blue distinctions during this past election but I think thats misleading. I think most people are in the middle but the problem is there isn't a mainstream party that represents a moderate. A moderate party would get eaten alive by both sides in our political system because they aren't "EXTREME."

Speaking of political media... did anyone watch the ABC show, Boston Legal? It was about how a principal banned the Fox News station from airing within his school. A student was sueing the school because he wanted access to the "most fair and balanced" news media (crock o' shit). The main argument the school had was that the liberal media does not promote intolerance. They also cited excerpts from the documentary Outfoxed where first hand accounts of former employees stated how they were instructed to not report the news, but put the Republican agenda. Now I'm not taking sides on this issue (don't need a slashdot flamewar), I bring it up because I'm impressed how bold the show's producers were to do a show about this.

If you ran a company where another organization was bribing your employees to release corporate confidential information, you'd be pissed too. Now obviously, blame needs to be lie on the employees that released the information. So, Apple asked and then demanded that the journalists release the names of the employees but they wouldn't.

Sure journalists should have a right to keep their sources secret but don't companies also have a right to have trade secrets? So, why should journalists be permitted to have their secrets after they engaged in activities that negated a company's rights to secrets? Think about it.

This entire situation is shitty on all accounts. On one hand, the employees need to be fired. Secondly, journalists should not be bribing an organizations employees for secret information. Lastly, Apple shouldn't care so much. No one takes ThinkSecret all that seriously. How many times have their rumors been absolutely ridiculous besides being incorrect? Remember how many times they've published rumors about a new PDA, G5 Powerbook, iTablet, or an iPhone?

    1) This is a server I setup in my house for my personal webpage, mp3s, movies, and backup for my laptop and desktop.
    2) I'm a student ... so beer money is more important than a tape drive... hell one tape is like 4 kegs of beer
    3) Relying on only one hard drive going bad at a time? Yes... I have never had a drive fail, and with my current setup of only 4 drives.... no I'm not worried about more than one drive failing at one time.
    4) My data is important... and I know how to do this data migration correctly given the correct tools in an business situation but this isn't a business situation.
    5) I would like to backup my data but I don't have the money for a tape drive to back up 500gb, nor the time to use DVDs for the backup...
    6) I have a UPS for power surge protection but you raise a concern about my power supplies. Can power supplies surge while they naturally burn out and die.... not from external power surges... but from the Power supply just up and dying?
    7) I think I'll just setup a second server ( I have a spare motherboard laying around) with the new 8 port card and copy all the data to 4 new drives. Then I'll format the four old drives and add them to the new array.
    8) As for backup, any suggestions? I use RAID 5.... should I consider using RAID 6? Or should I just save up and buy a tape drive? (Remember this is a home system... I don't mind have a server go down for a week).
