he should dump Outlook and lose his shared calendar
Disclaimer: I've never used Outlook. I have no idea how their calendar system works, and I also have no idea if it's better.
Mozilla does have an official calendar extension that works with either Firefox or Thunderbird, and it allows for shared calendars (either via a secure mod_dav setup, or via a highly-insecure FTP setup). I choose FTP, but then, the worst that would happen if someone were to stumble across my calendar would be that they'd know my work schedule and other such mundane info.
Using the FTP method, the calendar works like this. I add / edit something on my calendar, hit ok to confirm it, it then uploads a copy of the calendar to my server. When either my ol' lady or I open our calendar, it downloads the fresh calendar from the server. I instantly see any changes she made, she instantly sees any I made, and they're always in sync. Also, I could hand out the FTP info to anyone, and they'd have the same adding / editing options (I'd imagine piracy nuts / businesses would want something a wee bit more secure, but this works for me).
You got hit with a redundant due to the fact that there was a conversation about the exact same thing that you brought up above your post.
Cameron didn't do T3 by Gary Destruction (683101) on Thursday November 25, @05:05PM The Terminator franchise became property of C2 pictures and was directed by Johnathan Mostow.
Another problem that it could be (one that I had, anywho) is preferences for an extension that had been previously uninstalled.
Example: I installed an extension during the PR release. I found that I didn't really like it, so I uninstalled it and carried on without a problem. 1.0 is released, downloaded it, installed... FF now crashes every 30 minutes or so.
Skip over a large chunk of trying to figure out what the hell is going on, and I found some leftover files and preferences (prefs.js) from the aforementioned extension in my profile folder. Deleted those and everything was back to being peachy.
Not going to run this into the ground, as I'm really not quite sure how you kids are making the trip so fast. When I was making the trips, making 2-3 stops along the way to pick up a soda or use the john, it did indeed take the amount of time I specified up above. *shrug*
I did indeed say I don't have a car. I didn't say that I don't have access to a car. Borrowing a car for a day is completely seperate from making the trip daily.
This was about a month ago, maybe a lot of places have opened up since. Can't speak on the current state as of this moment, but during the time that I was looking, my post was accurate.
I will say this, however. During my searches, I used an online site as well as getting out and actually driving around. A good number of the places listed on the site I used were no longer available as the listings were outdated.
I live in Seaford, DE; if you blink while going down Rt. 13, you'll miss it.
Anywho, had to make a good number of trips to A.I. DuPont hospital in Wilmington a few years ago while my daughter was in there. On the absolute best trips, leaving at 2 a.m. (long story) and hitting no traffic, it would take around 3 hours and 45 minutes to make the trip.
Considering that about half of the trips involved leaving around 4 p.m. with loads of traffic involved, it wasn't unusual to hit 4-5 hours on the journey.
Yahoo maps says it takes two hours and six minutes, but my driving isn't *that* bad.
Upstate Delaware (Wilmington, Dover to an extent... I assume you're referring to those) has some great jobs, but from my experience, a horrid housing situation.
I live in lower Delaware, 4-5 hours away from Wilmington. Got an offer from a place up there through monster.com, some insane deal along the lines of $19/hour to setup networks for various clients. Thinking this was way too good to be true, I gave them a ring to find out the details... indeed, everything they had mentioned in their email was legit, and if I could come in and prove my 7334 $ki11Z, the job was mine. I explained my situation (4-5 hours away, no car) and asked how long the job was open... the lady gave me two weeks to call back and confirm whether or not I'd be coming in. Had every intention of finding an apartment up there and moving, but alas, nothing worked out (choice of month-long waiting lists for barely-acceptable apartments, available drug-infested ghetto apartments, or gouging on one-bedroom roommates).
It all worked out in the end though, found a graphics job for a local magazine that doesn't quite pay as good, but it's local and seems to be pretty long-term.
Would it not be better to have, `MS Active Accessibility' instead of plain `Active Accessibility' simply for the fact that it would possibly negate any confusion over whether I mean Microsoft's Active Accessibility or my stair's Active Accessibility?
MS Active Accessibility? Are you referring to MicroSoft Active Accessibility, or My Stair's Active Accessibility?
I was referring more to the host giving out POP3 accounts... Pixiehost offers a budget account for $6.95/month that includes 600 megs of space and unlimited POP3 and/or email forwarders and/or IMAP accounts. Great service from those guys (and no, I don't work for them, but I do use their dedicated servers for my site).
Simple solution to avoid all of the hassle of webmail.
1. Pay $5-$15/year (depending on which registar you choose) for www.yourname.com.
2. Pay $5-$20/month (depending on which host you choose) for web-hosting. If you only want email, I'd imagine you'd be looking at the $5 end of the spectrum.
You now have unlimited POP3 accounts, your choice of webmail applications, at least 500 megs of space on even the cheapest of hosts, a clean email address (no more your_name9387943894793@hotmail.com) and it's yours for life unless you stop paying the bills. If the host or registar changes their policies to something you disagree with or if they go out of business, it takes 24 hours at the most to transfer it to another company.
You may want to check out some Japanese horror, which I'm a huge fan of for just this reason. There's the obvious exceptions, but the good ones rely much more on atmosphere and setting rather than blood and gore. Basically, for every one good American horror film from the last ten years, there's been five great Japanese films.
Some of my favorites, links to my personal reviews.
Ringu (the original is MUCH better than the remake)
The Eye Suicide Club (a few moments of gore, but it's not there solely for "ohh, blood!"
There's many others, these are just a few of the more easily available ones off the top of my head.
Maybe I'm the odd one, but if I was reading a sample chapter from a book (as I do often on amazon), I wouldn't feel the need to print it. I'd either buy / borrow the book after reading the samples, or have no interest in it and move on to the next.
Actually, there's upper Delaware, and then there's lower Delaware. Your statement is correct about upper DE, as there is a number of large cities up there. Lower Delaware, as you can see by one of our great merchandising themes, is quite the opposite. Making the eight-hour (round-trip) trek up North daily for a job is out of the question, considering I don't own a car... the town is indeed small, but we have a decent public transportation system; with that in mind, and considering that I'm barely into my twenties, a car of my own wasn't a high priority. Hindsight rocks. Moving is impossible (for the moment) due to a lack of funds to do so.
Once again, this is not "woe is me", nor is it pity-fishing, and no blame is being put on anyones shoulders for my individual situation. I fully plan to leave this place when circumstances allow (see my other reply down the page a bit; I'm not retyping all that); things will be much better then. My original post was merely pointing out the unemployment problem here, nothing more, nothing less.
That's a great plan, if you don't take into consideration that my daughter is four years old and requires frequent trips to a hospital due to her medical requirements. While it's true that other states have hospitals, there's very few that have doctors on hand that have the knowledge to treat her medical concerns. A.I. duPont Hospital For Children, located in Wilmington, DE is one of the few.
What, did you think I would still be here if it was something silly such as friends or school? For point #3, allowing "some underpaid orderly (to) wipe her mouth" would be a great way to go, but I'm sure you wouldn't go that route if you had a child of your own.
Finally, did I ever say, in any of my posts, that I was staying in this town permanently? In 6-12 months, all of her medical concerns will be taken care of, and off I go. My original post was a reply to the topic at hand, and pointing out how the economy was in the town I reside in. No sympathy asked for, no woe is me, just adding the facts from this side of life to the conversation.
I'd hate to see the outcome if I'd replied to a sensitive subject, sheesh.
The job market in this particular state (Delaware) is completely shot to hell and back. In February of 2002, the local DuPont plant laid off almost half of the entire work-force, including myself. I have been unemployed since then, and those unemployment benefits ran out back in November 2002... not fun.
At first, I was a bit picky about my next job, I'll admit; having just lost a $15/hour job (with no college education, which is another rant for another time), I really didn't want to drop down to a McDonalds job due to the obvious decrease in the weekly check. After I realized that finding a similar-paying job wasn't going to happen, I went out to the usual teenie-employers to try my luck... Wal*Mart, Burger King, etc etc. I've been unsuccessful even with these places, and have been since I've started my job-hunting two and a half years ago. For the record, there's nothing about me that would lead someone to not hire me, such as criminal records, disability, race, any of that nonsense. (Obviously, those aren't supposed to matter, but speaking for this state, it does). Wrapping up my sob-story, moving to a new state is out of the question due to personal reasons involving my daughter, so we're stuck here.
Always nice to hear Bush on TV saying that the economy is great, hah.
FF has 15% on my music site, with 5,000-6,000 daily uniques.

Don't forget to figure in traffic, the inevitable accidents that seem to pop up daily, road traffic, lines at the tolls, etc etc.

I'm sorry, but if you can't get a job at one of those places, or any job at all for that matter, then the problem lies with you
I took that as meaning "if you go out and try to get a job, and the job-hunt ends up in less than stellar results, it's your fault".
Could be wrong however, was just my reading of it.
