If journalist don't have any protection then we lose news as we know it. Every loss of this nature makes the press less and less free. So what makes them special is the ability to get inside information about cases the public may or may not be interested in. However, at the rate the press is being pushed to give up information this method of obtaining news is going to stop. No informant in their right mind will want to talk to anyone press related. In the end we will end up with State and Federal goverment statements about situations with half or maybe even quarter truths. One can not make a intelligent decision with only half the facts.
Really the problem lies with the cost of making a film. With the skyrocketing cost of just making the film studios tend not to take chances. That's most likly why we are seeing sequels and clone movies so regularly. It also accounts for the influx of licensed comic movies. From their perspective they are leveraging their investment on the previous sales of a franchise. Not to mention if they are making a movie off a licensed property there is already a fan base. Less risk more chance for reward that is how you can describe the movie industries current business model.
Tv on the other hand is plugging away as it always has channel A makes a show. That show has high ratings so channel B and C figures out how to tell the same story in a different way. A classic example is sitcoms with the exception of Sienfeld and a few others they all tell the same story based off the same ideas with a very small twist. So you can see how this spiralled in to the Reality Tv explosion we see today same premise diffrent show type.
Just to touch on it the music industry is stuck in the same Tv like business model. Alot of the time a hit song can spawn a huge group of cloned artist signed to a label because they sound, look or in someway resemble that hit artist. They are selling a image not the music itself.
To take this full circle it all comes back to risk vs. reward all mediums of enetertainment are becoming more expensive to produce. That fact stiffles creativity and leaves us the consumer with this garbage they call enertainment. However, it's also effecting the industries profit margins. Which in turn forces us to watch or listen to more of the same old cloned unoriginal crap that is selling at that given time.
Really, there just isn't any reason to Upgrade for most people. I'm still running a Amd Xp 2200 it does everything I do on a daily basis. I mean most people with the exception of very highend gamers are in the same boat. A large majority of people surf the net with a little light game playing thrown in. The truth is how is that shiney new computer gonna change the way you use OpenOffice or any of the other productivity stuff you use.
Matter a fact the most popular online game World of Warcraft has fairly low hardware requirements. I mean I can play Oblivion on my Pc right now it's really hardware intensive and yeah I have to turn alot of stuff down but, it still looks good and runs smooth. Most likely the next time you will see a spike in growth is when Vista has been out a while. Most windows users I know tend to wait out the launch. As it is though when people begin adopting Vista I'm sure alot of us will re-evaluate our current rigs. Until that happens I'm just gonna peep over the wall and look at the new goodies shipping everyday that really won't affect they way I use my computer today.
Basically if Windows does not support blu-ray security it would be shooting itself in the foot. Everyone with half a brain knows this. Really the Xbox 360 and Windows Vista aren't enough to change the outcome of this fight. In the end the Movie studios will most likely choose the winner based on support for one or the other. As it is right now Blu-ray is looking unstopable with 6 of the 7 major houses supporting their format. The security will most likely be present in a Rom form on the actual drive. So MS would have to actually write code so the drives Drm wouldn't function. That's generally not their MO they tend to bully small companies not large ones such as Sony. Besides they would be not only screwing with Sony but, also the Movie industry and that's one fight I'm sure they couldn't win.
Not to mention Apple is onboard with Blu-ray. See how quickly Ms's market share slumps when the number 1 Hd video format doesn't make drives that will function with their OS. I mean could you really take the chance that the living room is filled with the Blu-ray format and you are standing there holding the dieing Beta MAX? I doubt it better to lick your wounds and live to fight another day.
Basically if you look at it all things point to the increasing of warming trends. Strangely enough the iceage is directly related to the trend. Higher temperatures equals more melting of glaciers as well as this peat bog. The bog releases more methane which raises temperatures even further. The higher temperatures melt glaciers at excelerated rates. In turn this pushes fresh water into the oceans diluting the salinity of said oceans. Heres the kicker without the sinking of salty waters in the northern oceans the currents as we know them stop flowing. Without the currents the warm water brought north from the gulf stream will no longer push north and the average temperature in these northern lands will fall dramaticly. So being worried about this semi small thing is relevant in the big picture.
Well if anyone with half a bit of intelligence and no other primary agenda were to look up the simple facts. They would find glaciers in almost every climate melting at excellerated rates. Antartic temperatures being on average 2.5 degrees higher than normal. Which in turn is causeing large chunks of the ice sheet to break off and melt.
Really, there are just two sides to the equation. Man is raising the temperature of the earth by releasing green house gasses or man is not and this is some type of natural cycle that is not yet understood. The simplest fact of them all is scientist are measuring the changes in glaciers and the information is fairly easy to find. At the very least the trends are a bit disturbing. Some would call the findings some what alarming.
All this is besides the point. Scare tactics are just that, scare tactics. What you really have to look at is who is making money from this? Who wouldn't want a conclusive answer to a question that could very well make business for certain industries decline? These are the questions that need to be answered. Once you answer those you will find out why this intrusive search into the scientific process is happening.
Well hibernating is all fine and dandy but, what about the nasty solar radiation the sun likes to spit out in random intervals. Seems like a bad idea to be sleeping while the potiential of such large doses of radiation are possible. It's not like they can radio down to engineering and have Scotty divert all power to the shields while they are sleeping.
Russian pirates are pushing music at prices the people can afford. With few other alternatives this becomes the standard way of doing business. This is the very reason when asked, the russian public sees it as normal. Everyone can spurt off about laws, copyright infringment or whatever else. That doesn't change that fact that these people can't afford to buy albums at the regular price.
The truth is 15 dollars is alot of money for a music album period. Yes, there is Itunes, Aol, and whole host of other online music providers dishing out tracks 1 dollar each. Though the system they use is a bit misguided. There are 12 second skits that originally ran seemlessly in front or back of a song. Yet these cost a dollar as well because they have a track number. I guess that's just one of my personal gripes.
