No, but making it hidden by default will make it *even easier* for people to get scammed
1- no status bar by default. So when I highlight a link, it won't show http://hax0red.sony.com/redirect_visaCC_nigeria.html 2- no URL bar by default, meaning it's now loading that website, without the victim being able to see the URL (not that it will change much for stupid users)
People are stupid enough and are already clicking anywhere. dumbing bown the browser for the masses is not what needs to be done.

Since many VW have that *feature* for a long time (and at one time only had one flasher indicator), I'm wondering when the heck did GM buy Volkswagen?:)

50$ is for the 17" MBP. It's not a laptop at that point, more of a desktop replacement. On the 15" it's 150$ more, you can't get it on the standard resolution. And it's absent from the 13".
As for the MBA, at that price for an underpowered *netbook*, I would expect it to have both matte AND a backlit keyboard.
MacOS 7.x to 9.x was *not* superior to NT. Macs didn't offer multitasking, memory protection and modern stuff until OS X. Better than 3.x, on some points, but not NT (or even 9x)...
My Nintendo Zapper won't work with anything but a CRT... About the only reason I keep a CRT TV around (well that, and it gets the job done for the crappy TV we get on cable)
I agree... For some reason, I've never been able to run ST: Armada in a stable fashion on my XP box. It always ends up crashing or kicking me to the desktop. Same goes for the floppy edition of Tie Fighter. (that one will also end up crashing if it's not run on a standard SB16). I'm keeping an old 800Mhz P3 running 98SE for that purpose. I could go all the way and rebuild my oc'ed 5x86 on DOS 6.22, but I really don;t see the point as all DOS and Win9x-era games can be run on that machine.
"Does anyone know of any drawbacks to installing Prey?"
I haven't seen any except it's software-based. The way it works is whenever you boot the machine, it will report the IP it's running from. You can then log into your account and report it as stolen. If someone of course takes out the drive, formats it or boots from an external drive, it will be defeated. But then again, as you said, most thieves are not tech people.
Since you have to enter the admin password for it to install, what's different from NT,*NIX and other OSes?
*ANY* OS can and will be compromised if the user sitting at the keyboard grants root access...
We're not talking about malware hidden inside freepr0n.wmv that will install via Windows Media Player or via an ActiveX control, or by itself on a pre-SP2 WinXP...

That's not really nice to rocks...
It's almost eery...
They're either...
1- Very incompetent on the security side
2- Very unlucky
3- Pissed off the wrong people
I think 1 and 3 pretty much covers it...
IMO, I think someone is after blood, and it won't be pretty...
Perhaps hiring Sony's IT dept wasn't such a good idea after all...

Since it's pretty hard to get a matte screen today, people will end up buying glossy crap anyways.

Yes, let me move the wall instead of being able to get a matte TV...
And as *if* ...
And as they didn't have enough problems already...

My NES doesn't overheat at all while playing Duck Hunt on my CRT TV...
I own one of those, and calculators were *never* allowed in my avionics classes, besides 4-function ones

To fix weird sound, lower Sound accel in DXDIAG. But it still crashes on my main PC. (still runs fine on the toy netbook though, running XP too)
I'll keep running it on the 98SE machine until the hardware dies :)
Great... you just /.'ed a C64...

... Seaquest has finally launched?
Oh and yes, I love to have the physical media on hand too...
What about giving back those features?
Starcraft II and Transformers WFC come to mind...
The latest OS to support PPC machines is Leopard (10.5.8)
That's what I'm running on my Powermac G4 and my iMac G5. (also on my Netbook and my Athlon X2 :)

According to "The Return" by William Shatner, yes...

Makes more sense anyways than when they tried to explain why Klingons looked different in the train-wreck that was ST:Enterprise...
