Since the common customer will have no idea that it can be done (or how), it is for all purposes *bricked*. Guess who the customer will blame? the manufacturer, not the counterfeiter. So basically FTDI is harming legitimate manufacturers. Hope they get sued into oblivion for that...
"And there is still no way to remove the obtrusive Search and Task View icons from the taskbar"
That one bugs me too, especially when activatng the taskbar on multiple monitors. I wouldn't mind if they were only on the main monitor, but thay are on all of them (back to display fusion I guess)
Tell that to HP. My laserjet 1012 doesn't have any drivers for 7, yet it works if I force it as a 3055.
Manufacturers should be required by law to provide drivers for at least 5-10 years. All the perfectly good and working hardware that gets recycled or trashed is mind boggling...
And PC makers never sold power cords that melt (HP), batteries that explode (Dell), Laptops with GPUs that pop from their solder (all with some nVidia), and eeePCs with cheap battery packs that die within a year (ASUS).
Real easy to bash on one company when they all do it.
That's the reason why even if I own a really nice Multimeter, I still use an old analog one from time to time (because of the too-fast response time of Digital)
Ethernet is faster, more reliable, and less susceptible to interference. Right now I'm picking up about 40 access points (might be more, my card is only 2.4. Besides, transfering stuff is faster with Gigabit ethernet...
That's the problem when the ISP is also the TV provider and content producer. That's why we have such pathetic bandwidth quotas here in QC province. both Bell and Videotron own TV stations and are TV providers, so yes they're afraid of Netflix and such.
So people that own cars should be mechanics? What about a house? do I need to know about plumbing, electricity and such? If I want a cellphone do I need to study RF or electronics?
I know even more than the basics on stuff I own, but most people don't (and don't care).
So those people should all be using public transportation and rent their places (and not own any electronics and other stuff) ?

It's more likely customers won't know about the counterfeits and blame the original company. Not a good idea...

Seriously? What are they gonna do, put towers on every street corner?
"even most Linux distros do not explicitly encourage the use of dual-booting"
It's part of the setup when you install linux

Because "quite a few" is more than one ?
at 7x10 feet, if you can fit a few of them in your bedroom, you probably live in a basement
And I'll bet the less they earn the better they are...
And that's why the digital dash in my Grand Marquis was a VFD...
Doing it in software, sure. Making it in hardware will add components...
"and more prone to failure than an LCD display"
at -30C your LCD might not react properly until it has warmed up.
As for analog gauges being more prone too failure, I wouldn't be so sure about that
Adds to complexity for nothing. much easier (and reliable) to use an analog meter if one is needed
That's the reason why even if I own a really nice Multimeter, I still use an old analog one from time to time (because of the too-fast response time of Digital)
Domination was a favorite of mine when we had our clan...
Not only that, but those people don't even know Photography basics. (I know a couple)
According to Braindead (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103873/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_17) a hell lot more :)
I'm using an old hands-me-down Airport Extreme, seems to do the job fine...

Netflix is available in Canada, and we're 35 million, not much more than Australia.
Installing their CDNs in Australia should cost about the same as anywhere else.
So it's probably license related (or should I say license retarded)

Please leave your geek card on your way out...
That was kinda my point. What's the market share for that phone?
