if the costs of doing buisness go up so do the fees
And the more the fees go up, with everything else the same, the less competitive a bussiness becomes.
It is not like there is a shortage of lawyers to chose from.
What I like about this 'experiment' is that, if replicated with other words, it will put a lot of strain on the whole google advertising and serach model. We know google are smart, and will find a way to fix it. Hopefully this fix will result in more relevant ads, and a lower ranking for circle jerk sites.
There is a difference between marketing and advertising, advertising is just one of the many tools of marketing.
Marketing consists of finding out what the people you want to sell to want, even if they the people don't know they want it, and delivering.
If Microsoft's target market wanted safe, standards compliant, customizable browsers, that is what Microsoft would deliver. Too bad we are not their target.
e.g. When the mass of people Microsoft caters to started getting tired of popups, adware and spyware, they started getting solutions elswhere. Microsoft's marketing department noticed, and we now have IE's pop-up blocker and Microsoft Anti-Spyware.
R&D cost for blocker and antispyware: $0 (Just copy other browsers, or buy it from Giant) Marketing cost: $Millions (Who has not heard of it? How many press releases and covert publicity?)
And to stay in topic, how many grannys, Joe Sixpacks, stupid managers, etc... care wether Britney's pictures come from 3 or 2.5 million different sources? They just want their pictures NOW!
I thougth I had seen the it's just a big rocket propelled glider argument before, but not on so many places, applied to so many ships.
You unoriginal troll.
Flash is easy if you have no experience, and there are lots of popular flash games. One of my favourite is curveball (just google it), not to mention yeti games.
I made my first flash game some time ago, and it is still a challenge to play. Took me only a couple of weeks, based mostly on the excelent tutorials at kirupa (google it).
And in my limited experience, actionscript is a great gateway language. At first, I found it really easy to do very simple stuff using the Flash GUI.
Soon that was not enough, so I started playing with actionscript in 'expert' mode. I even managed to create a few nice data structures there. But then I wanted to dynamically load stuff, so I learnt about URL variables, XML, etc...
Then I wanted to keep scores, so I learnt PHP and SQL. And to integrate my little flash experiments into a website, so I learnt HTML and CSS, which led to a little JavaScript.
At that time, my flash projects were so bloated and slow, that I grew frustrated, and started learning other languages, like java, perl, python, and just starting now, C++.
Give Flash a try, it does have its legitimate uses.
Can you name a single country in the American continent that the USA di not consider to be doing something extremely provocative when electing a socialist government? Or even looking like it may? Guatemeala, Nicaragua, Cuba, Chile and Argentima come to mind right now.
Have you heard of the Manifest Destiny doctrine so dear to so many USA presidents?
In the 19th century it said that it was the United States of America's DESTINY to expand across the NORTH AMERICAN continent.
By the time of Salvador Allende of Chile, it had expanded to include the whole of the American continent.
It seems to me that now it includes the middle east also.
As long oas Europe is left out, Sweden seems to be safe to pursue its self determination.
If you want to learn more, do a search on Manifest Destiny, Woodrow Wilson and Ronald Reagan. Too much info to abstract and quote here.
"unless Iran does something extremely provocative" like (alledgedly) amass weapons of mass destruction (Irak), or democratically elect a socialist president (Chile)?
We all know the kind of provocation the US has historically needed, and that sending lots of soldiers is not the only way the US has abused its power and screwed some other country over (see Chile again).
Actually, the Lophophora williamsii cactus (peyote), produces small pinkish flowers, that mature into a small reddish fruit.
This fruit, while not certainly poisonous, is not considered edible. It is bitter, full of seeds, with no flesh.
This fruit has a very low concentration of psychoactive alkaloids. You would neeed to eat almost 50 grams of fruit for every kilogram you weight to start feeling anything.
If you ever consider trying peyote, do some research on which part to eat, and how to cut it off the plant without killing it.
(I will not go into a rant about all the uninformed tourists DIGGING UP whole peyote plants, boiling the root, and throwing the rest away, leaving the San Luis Potosi desert full of holes, and endangering the species)
They require little care (water once a week during the warm months, none at all during the cold months, fertilize once a year), so they can survive vacations and weekends unattended.
Cactii come in all kinds of strange, unique geeky forms, and several produce weird looking edible fruit.
Look up epiphyllum catus, beautifull flowers, and fruit that tastes like passionfruit (smell before eating, goes bad very fast).
Most mammillarias produce small red edible fruits, and some have very interesting shapes. Look up mamillaria elongata cristate, or Mammillaria bocasana 'Fred', one of my favourites.
If you like really weird shapes, look up Euphorbias, I specially like my Euphorbia obesa cristate.
Note: Cristate means a Crested fromd of the plant. They usually look like brains.
America is a continent. Named after Amerigo Vespucci, latinized to Americus Vespucius, a cartographer.
The name of the country laying south of Canada is United States of America (U.S.A.).
The name of the country lying south of the U.S.A. is United States of México (Estados Unidos Mexicanos).
When you say American, you could be refering to a citizen of any of the countries between Canada and the southmost tip of Chile, including several islands.
When you say United States, you could be refering to any country in the world that is constituted as a federation of states.
But I would not expect much geographical accuracy from a people that fail to identify their country in an unmarked world map more than 3 fourths of the time.
In my limited understanding of communism, the State's control of bussinnes and the distribution of wealth is more important than SHARING.
In capitalism it is assumed that with no government intervention wealth will find a way to SHARE itself in a more fair and just way than if government intervened.
Where did youi get the idea that communism is all about sharing?
It must be a lot harder than detecting faint mechanical waves on the air, discriminating signal from a lot noise, analizing the signal, filling in the gaps, and extracting and reconstructing another person's toughts from that signal. As in listening to radio in a crowded room. We have the power to interpret the signal, sensing it is what remains to be proved.
How long did it take scientists to discover that termites, among many other animals, sense and act according to the earth's magnetic field? Even bacteria can detect faint electromagnetic fields.
It is my undersdtanding that most people who sincerily beleive to be able of ESP talk about perceiving 'vibes' or 'moods', not specific toughts or sentences. May just a little bit of sensibility will be enough.
I propose a kind of ESP Turing Test: Record the signals from the brain, reproduce them using a computer and an antenna, and have an ESP enabled person in a room tell if the signal comes from anotehr mind or a machine.
Any PUBLICITY is good PUBLICITY.
You pay for advertising, and many advertising campaigns have been really bad.
Publicity is when you get mentioned in the news, word of mouth, etc... without (explicitly) paying for it.
lets start fires in the jungles of columbia
That would be a great solution, specially if you mean District of Columbia. That way people in Colombia, and most of the world for that, would be free to shove up their noses whatever they wish.
NOSEGREASE: Rub the side of your finger against the side of your nose. Then rub collected Nose Grease into CD scratches. Good quality readers will the read them.
Recent research indicates that Average Person(tm) runs out of grease after fixing 1 badly scratched CD. Slashdot readers on average can fix 7.3 CDs.
Question: Nose grease index of refraction == polycarbonate index of refraction?
The United States of America could learn something from the Unites States of Mexico.
After 60 years of corrupt elections, we have experience with a lod of fraud and fraud prevention techniques.
One of the favourite was the Carrousel. To implement the Carrousel, you fill a 10 Ton truck with as many sympathetic people as you can find, and tour all the booths you can making sure everyone votes. Yo repeat since opening till closing hour. Breakfast and lunch breaks are optional, but you MUST provide each voter with a sandwich and a Coca Cola.
This stopped working once we got voting card with photo. The card gets punched with a special press, and you get your thumb stained with an indelible brown ink.
Having a brown thumb gives one a good sense of civic achievment, and you can easily tell the absentees apart and bug them.
The intention of my post was to point to exactly that.
How long till someone hacks the site to always say:
1. Your ideal theoretical candidate. (100%)
2. Nader, Ralph - Independent. (99%)
3. Nader, Ralph - Independent. (98%)
4. Nader, Ralph - Independent. (97%)
5. Nader, Ralph - Independent. (96%)
Choosing from my results, i will probably vote for:
Warning: mysql_db_query(): Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO) in/usr/www/users/ssmart/PRESIDENT/president.php on line 45
As a Mexican I find it is easier, faster, and sometimes cheaper to travel to Canada or Europe (even Eastern Europe), than it is to get into the USA, with their "unreasonably restictive regulations" for visas and airports.
This alone could keep a lot of potential customers away: I beleive that some of the richest people in the world might find they are 'blacklisted' if they try to get a US visa.
I will wait until one of the non-american teams makes it into space.

A 'black' man is more genetically similar to a 'white man' than a 'white man' is to a 'white woman'.
So you say that girls who play soccer since an early age will be better at math?
I would love to see such a study.
Imagine the headlines: Girl Jocks turn to Women Nerds.
