Another issue with opensolaris for me was the installation.
Being a fairly experienced *nix user, years of sunos, aix, linux, bsd, etc.. under my belt and a fairly competent programmer.
I tried quite a few times to install OpenSolaris and there was always some major problem. I never did get a stable system working and finally gave up.
That said, this all comes as no surprise to me whatsoever.
I think it was just to draw attention to them, to separate them from the endless stream of cheap pc manufacturers.
Now that./ and the world see them as the guys who got shut down by Apple they can go on to sell the "modified" version for Winblows only.
If they didn't have this what would they have? A single line coming up in an Amazon search of "pc's under 400$.
I did buy it you idiot. As I bought ALL my Dish recievers for the last 10 + years.
I spent close to 500 on this one.
Jeeze, think BEFORE you post.
Just because they don't sell them now does not mean it was always that way.
Hey! In all these years, my first real/.rant! Naw probably been a few before.
This explains why the sudden change to a less intuitive, absolutely illogical, bloated software they pushed out a few months ago.
Never did figure out what the new "feature" named DishPass was anyway. Some way to record things I don't want, in ways I don't like.
Nice.
I wondered why, after years of my DVR doing things the way I liked, it suddenly turned into a big smoking pile o cow dung!
Unfortunately for Dish, this new information won't stop the change I've already put in motion. I am going MythTV/Fedora and cable.
Screw Dish and the 5.95/Month fee for the pleasure of using the DVR the I ALREADY OWN!
Never thought I'd go back to cable but ohh well.
Theres always the Canadian Freesats.
I could give a rats ass if Microsoft gets the patch out first.
Lets see, when I have my heart surgery, I sure hope I get the Doc that does it quickest!
I'm no Apple fan boy either but jeeze, cmon... Is this the best we can do for the "Microsoft is great" audience out there?
Since when does anything PC Mag has to say matter ?
I mean, cmon these guys also are the ones spouting off about how great ver x.x of xxx software is and its nothing but a bunch of spy/adware....Smells like Bonzi Buddy.
You can download it "virus free" (no mention of adware however) from the PC Mag website.
"I read an interesting article way back when about how Microsoft has had to bend over backwards, replicating old bugs "
Oh, poor Microsoft.
If they only were able to stay above financial water....pity
Sorry it took so long to reply, I was coding my reply on punchcards... But when I went to back it up I had to change out the Winchester Drive..
At least the core memory is still ok.
one word.....
WRONG....
Toughbooks are awesome.
They are made to be reliable and traveling through 3rd world countries where the..lol...geek squad won't do house calls to look at your private porn is a great reason to get one. Expensive? yes.
I work at a power utility and all the technicians use them. Why? well, they don't break. Simple enough, it gets better when you factor in that they are working around the magnetic flux fields of 220,000 volt and 500,000 volt lines all day. they also bounce all day in the back of trucks running dirt roads to remote locations. If they can stand up to that, they probably can handle the occasional Kalahari day.
Now as far as running windows on it...
Well, no one can insure that Microsoft won't break the dam thing.
"This of course is for Government networks. The US power companies (as are most in Australia) are privately owned, so they don't have to worry about such trivial things as security rules."
WRONG!
Ever heard of FERC? or NERC?
I work as an engineer for a utility and can say, actually about the only thing I will say, is we have very strict guidelines we have to follow. Page after page of them.
This goes for anyone putting andthing on the grid... be it generation or transmission/distribution.
I know most business travelers use their notebooks for work but I use it for movies also...a lot actually. I am somewhat of a fan boy but still have to say what were they thinking with no internal optical drive for a travelers box?
Funny, after years of using SuSE and Red Hat and others... I found Ubuntu very difficult to get working. I have tried it several times with several versions the past couple years and I have Always had some issue or another that just had headache written all over it.
2c....
After 30 days or so..give or take a couple days, I have yet to have any issues at all.
I run Openoffice, Eye TV, World of Warcraft, Many unusual apps..Popcorn...Handbrake..etc...
hmmm.. A program that would claim to a Linux version of Time Machine had better be pretty dang easy to use!
If a user can't even install it without extensive knowledge of the packages on their system then this whole disscusion is moot! |null
Where do you people come up with these "theories".
The law in most states has what is known as drug diversion for first offenders that would, after completing the after corrective schooling, remove the offense. The courts give you a chance to ask for this instead of going to trial.
As far as the convicted murderer being brought to justice, You are watching too much tv if you think she should be let go again. We also have no way of knowing if she is responsible for other crimes in the 35 years she has beedn out. If a person is able to commit murder, they are probably capable of quite a bit other nice things. So, your saying if someone commits a crime, if they can act good, and we know the motivation was not getting found, then they are ok and free to go?
Well I guess it would be good for setting my cheese on!

If a brick falls in redmond... does it make a sound?
I wonder if sourceforge.net should get royalties?

O man! Now I'll have to save up for that case of Molsen and those hockey pucks I was looking at.
I don't understand why everyone always talks about AMD's problems. So what if they are not the forunners on every front. They still lead in other areas. Example from July's Inquirer http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=41 138&rfp=dta/
It's nice to have a big backer in the oo arena that isn't part of the whole m$oft mess. I also think IBM's timing was very well thought out here.
