"After all, version 6 software ought to have most of the bugs worked out by then. I would think poor quality at version 6 would reflect much more negatively on a company than at version 1." so, by that logic I suppose version '95 of a certain software it should be about perfect! lol sry.. had to do it.

  4. I tried the disk with and without internet access on "Iron Man" Release Brings Down Paramount's Servers · · Score: 2, Interesting

I bought the disk Tuesday also and watched it that evening on my PS3. As mentioned earlier, the PS3 gives you the option to dload or not. I first tried it with my wireless disabled for the PS3 and it seemed to play fine. I then reloaded the disk and selected yes, dload content. It took about 1 minute (I have 6mg DSL). I did'nt watch the traffic to see how much content was dloaded, or to see if anything was actually dloaded other than Sony's rootkit..err... "User Experience Enhancement". It seemed to play the same, Dolby Digital Audio, 1080p, stream. Menus looked the same so I'm thinking it was the latest DRM that was dloaded. Point is that as long as your player supports it, it doesn't matter if it connects or not (for now anyway). We will see how strict the Blueray 2.0 spec is enforced as to internet access in the future.

Well, first of all this may have been the largest but not the worst by far. My condolences if you work for WAMU. I didn't know this was $lashdot, Findot, Dollardot, or any other such iteration. This is TECH news, "News for Nerds" ring a bell? If I want to talk Finance I'll go over to M$NBC or Bloomberg. I come here to get away from that crap. Further more, keep your political preferences out of my tech news, unless Mccain released a new FLOSS version of his latest plugin for xxxdb, then kindly STFU. "Instead of facing the fact that the economy of the entire world is swirling the drain you fucks are sitting on your fat asses discussing GTA IV?" Why, facing such absolute devastation, are you reading slashdot and not marching Washington as we speak? GO GO! Get out man, run to Washington, quick as you can, theres no time to lose!

But finally I get to play it in a buggy environment that will guarantee more of a challenge! Imagine having to roll thru Liberty City while avoiding police and Blue Screens as well! Every time you turn left, "A windows exception has occured!" WOW. Now to really spice it up for the ultimate gaming experience, why don't they make it only Vista com patible on top of the live service? That, would be a challenge. Complete it, with saving the game in between crashes.. haha good luck.

  14. Wind power is a mess on The Power Grid Can't Handle Wind Farms · · Score: 1

For many reasons, wind power is not very good. I'll cite just a couple; When do you need it the most? when it is hottest. When is there the least wind?.... It is also maintenance intensive. A single 1000 Mw Generator needs far less maintenance (and is less susceptible to failure) than 1000 single Mw units. Wind power is unstable and simply surges and falls constantly. The regulation ends up decreasing efficiency by an amazing amount as well as wreaking havoc on systems controls. As for renewable energy in general, getting it on the grid for long distance and sustained periods is NOT the issue. There are already plans announced for localized solar usage, a "mini grid" if you will, that is self sustaining for periods of high demand and simply draws excessive demand from the grid. Remember we are NOT trying to replace the generation facilities (at this point), just supplement the peak demands. Sure, you can power your home but the main thing that renewables can't replace is the industrial requirements, which is by far the biggest usage of electricity.

Well, not a scam "per se" but they claim to work, and all I've tried do not. Like Xm radio (any newer one-not the old ones that actually work well) or my new TomTom 930 gps. I know the FCC has crippled these devices so it isn't the companies fault but the fact remains, they all claim they have wireless fm. They do, but only if you live 200 miles from a metropolis and put torroids on the power AND have a place to mount less than 4 feet from your antenna. They lead you to believe that you just plug it in, tune to a free station, and you have great hands free phone, xm, mp3, whatever. Not True.
