Who died and left you in charge of what makes a project "Open Source." Just because a project doesn't line up with your ideals doesn't mean it isn't Open Source. Clearly OpenSolaris qualifies and if IBM disagrees, who give a flying...
Not going to happen in 5 or 50 years... Probably some other commercial solution will step in and take over where MS left off. If linux was going to "take over" the desktop, it probably would have by now (didn't it have 98SE & ME to compete against at one time...)
1- Make sure no one is looking.
2- Boot "alternate OS" to desktop Linux.
3- Run Open Source apps such as Firefox, OO.org.
4- Take detailed notes on how to... ahem... "borrow" features from these apps.
5- Get Ballmer on the phone and order him to get cranking implementing these "innovative" features that he just came up with.
6- Reboot back into Windows XP.
7- Profit!!!
How to design intelligent.NET applications by Slashdot Step #1: Install GNU/Linux from distro of choice (spawn 50 more troll replies to this about why a different distro would work better... also 100 or so replies about *BSD or Mac OSX would be better) Step #2: Install Apache webserver -- Strangely there is a lot of consensus on this one. Step #3: Install MySql or DB of choice (again spawn 37 more troll replies to this about why a different database would work better...) Step #4: Install Perl or scripting language of choice (now spawn 143 more troll replies about why Python, Ruby on Rails, TCL/TK, javascript, java, or even Mono might be the real way to go...) Step #5: Try to remember what this.NET thingie was in the first place!
Share price is not a trivial attribute if you buy high and sell low! Earnings per share and other financial ratios are good metrics when evaluating a stock's price to determine its value. When the EPS of a company is way out of proportion to those of its peers in industry this often is a sign of an overpriced stock.
This stock will probably continue to grow in the short term because of the tremendous buying pressure from average investors attracted to the brand more than solid fundementals. However, if Google fails to bring the expected earnings growth in the future, this stock price will come crashing down.
Google's riduculously high stock price amounts to a gamble on the part of its investors. I wonder how many investors knew this was coming and were smart enough to short this stock.
This computer requires a special OS known as "Linux" that able to perform complex mathematical calculations without requiring the standard operating procedure on most computers known as "Blue-Screening". Mr. Gates was quick to point out that for the average taxpayer Windows XP was accurate for calculating federal taxes +/- 100%. He was also quick to point out that Microsoft is not liable for any tax penalties that may be accrued due to tax preparation with MS Windows.
Who sets the standard for what defines "Open Source"?

Exactly!
I don't believe that this is going to work...
From what I've seen with Dell pricing vs. Mac pricing I'd rather have the Microsoft Tax than the Steve Jobs rulz tax.
How about MS-Windows 1.0??

Yeah, unfortunately you will be served 7MB of continuous streaming ads and charged $10/hr for your 1MB overage...
You could make a case that their customers paid for it...
Actually, it could be a sign that the buyers of this stock failed... to see that it was OVERPRICED
