But you don't have to spend anything like that. My modest but compentent rig runs HL2 just fine. I'd spent $150 on a new video card 7 months before. All the parts are midrange, bought later in their lifecycle for max value.
Add to that the fact that I can also use my pc for Photoshopping, development, music library management, file serving, network tools, web browsing, etc. I can have a multiheaded display and run at resolutions far more pleasing than TVs.
So, it's not so clear.
Because Microsoft's goal for the project was "get more users to install the.NET framework"
This is clearly false.
Their goal is at least partially to promote.NET, but this is accomplished by assisting in the development of a free.NET based application. I highly doubt MS gives a damn if users of older Windows versions bolt on.NET for its own sake. They certainly would like developers to adopt C# and.NET, but getting users to install the Framework doesn't accomplish that.
He's the judge, not the prosecutor. He adjudicates the charges made. He doesn't get to say, "Well, charge X is bogus but you're obviously guilty of unalleged charge Y, so Alcatraz it is!"

Because countries last forever!

1. I don't have a clue.

Microsoft was responsible for the windowing system that ran on the PC Clone (486-series). And they sucked at it too. The thing crashed constantly.
I don't think that Apple has a thing to worry about.

A largely ephemeral boost from reconstruction after the hurricanes.

Don't forget antibiotics.
WMD:People
as
Pesticides:Insects
as
Antibiotics:Bacteria
The logic is air-tight.
