So all those sites dedicated to the mullet rocking, Oakley blade wearing (with the pink arms) lifted Toyota minitruck driving, Coors light drinking Americans from the 80's are in big trouble!
I was working at my first computer store when Doom came out... I remember stringing coax all over the f-ing place so that we could network our Windows 3.11 for Workgroups 486s.
4 player deathmatch! It's all fun and games until the bnc coax terminator falls off.
Maybe if American schools learned from the Brazilians we could have more computers at all levels... (good computers, without the security problems)
At the k-5th level my daughter had computers in the classroom. They were little Wyse terminals connected to a Windows server, but they had fast internet access and access to a bunch of learning programs. There were about 13 computers to 25 kids in her 3rd grade class. It was really cool. I would go into the classroom and help out on Fridays, sometimes showing the kids how to make PowerPoint presentations.
Syd is a 6th grader now and there are only about 3 computers to 30 kids in a classroom. Middle school is 6th - 8th grade (for those of you that don't have kids or have forgotten your school daze) so I can kind of understand why they don't have a ton of connected systems for the horny 7th and 8th grade boys, but damn it really seems like the middle schools are left out compared to the grammar schools. I hope that high school is better...
I don't agree. I'm a Sys Admin, but I only use Windows and some Netware. I have almost no experience on Linux. The NLD was east to install, It was loaded with apps and it found all my hardware. You also have a choice of Gnome or KDE (I prefer the Gnome)during the install.
The included Citrix Client just worked out of the box.
I can see NLD being a real challenger for Uncle Bill.
There is an eval of 9 on the Novell site, try it out.
I had Vespas when I was a kid.. Nothing like doing 70 on wheelbarrel wheels! - Got my 1st ticket on a Vespa. Back then I thought that I was impervious to harm, didn't even wear a helmet. I got all the protevtion that I needed from my trench coat and my Baloramas!
Lets see... a silent, 175 Lb motorcycle that does 50MPH and is set up to off road. Sounds like a favorite for Ninjas and assasins worldwide! Now if I can only find a gas station that sells hydrogen...
The pleading template WP5.1 was the industry standard for ever. Thank god for the Y2K bug that scared a bunch of law firms into upgrading... Or they would still be using WordPerfect 5.1, Direct Access and Xtree Gold.
It's all about what standard catches on and sticks... The only ppl that really use Firewire extensively are doing Digital Video. USB ships with every PC, 98 of every 100 computers is a PC... New laptops don't even have LPT or Serial ports. CDRW killed Zip drives, and DVD-RW will kill CDRW. (I can't wait until the DVD players in cars get cheap).
...and there will always be a way to get hacked. The only real solution is to unplug your computer from the 'Net, throw away your cell phone, Kill your TV (tm), turn off your analog phone, unplug your radio, sell your car (OnStar, I can help you), erase all your iPod songs... Sounds dull.
Can you hear Special Ed yelling...

You could even end up in jail with Martha Stewart and the Enron boys. White Collar crime does pay... you just have to wait 12 to 14 months (or 6 months with good behavior) to spend the money.
From the folks that brought us the hacked SideKicks of Fred Durst and Paris Hilton...
Not that I have any naked pictures on my passport chip... yet.
"Longhorn release to manufacturing (RTM)
May 24, 2006"
I always thought that "RTM" meant Read the Manual. as in RTfM...

Our COO knows Access... We have all these evil Access 97 databases that we have to suffer with. I feel your pain.
