The modders and street racers, also prefer these cars because they are well laid out and easy to modify. (ever try to mod a luxury car with the dearth of documentation? )

Professional racing uses specially constructed cars for their needs. So where does the luxury car fit into the car market? RIGHT! the social status market i.e. people with more money than sense, which incidentally is a good description of the windows vista market.

although i agree with the general thrust of your post, i have to make a small correction. The only reason gandhi was successful, was world war 2. The british army was in shambles. Huge indian armies had been raised to defend the british colonies in india and africa. A growing nationalist struggle would only bloodily for the brits. The point is, it had nothing to do with British civilization, the brits were just too beaten after the war to care about anything more than putting britain back together.

I have no idea how segway plans to defend their ip about balancing on two wheels, i.e. if they have any. People have been doing two wheel balancing robots for a long time. I remember seeing a few two wheeled robots in a micromouse maze solving robot competition in the 90's. They were the fastest speed run robots around. Granted it wasn't designed to balance a human but the principle is the same. The benefit of these robots is obviously the turning radius and the speed of the turns themselves. Ball robots aren't that big a stretch but the problem has always been how to deal with gunk getting stuck to the robot, when the robot only has one wheel. On two wheel robots you can always readjust wheel spin rates to compensate for a damaged wheel.

It's fairly obvious they're doing what every new underclass does to get rich, thuggery. Think italians, irish, chinese, etc who launder their ill gotten gains through their children =) getting them more access and in turn a better future in a higher class. The problem is blacks are still getting busted far more often than every other seedy underclass mobster so they're not making any headway from generation to generation. ;) The hispanics, and the chinese have already sped by them, so it's obvious there is some bias in the system =).

As for studying, getting good grades and heading for a life of white collar crime, they just aren't there yet. They need some seed money from the successful gangster generation to feed the next 'entrepreneurial' generation. ;)

So umm..., yea, resuscitating the fact that white people enslaved them while they're still unsuccessful at joining the beautiful tapestry of corruption that keeps modern society alive is insulting. The only thing separating them from all the other successful immigrants was their previous enslavement. So it serves now to reinforce that they're forever doomed to be social pariahs. but you forget that your family has profited from their exploitation (assuming you come from slaveowning stock) and thus enjoy a place in a distinctly higher economic class. The only thing that has happened since the end of slavery, is the declaration that we will stop exploiting blacks. Not "oops! i'm sorry. Here's restitution for our crime, now let's let bygones be bygones'. Instead it's simply "i'll stop raping your women and standing on your neck now. Let's let bygones by bygones'

As far as I can tell black people have no ill will to non-racist poor whites. But upper class whites who have profited from slavery and rest on its benefits generations after the fact, debating whether or not there's too much affirmative action should feel ashamed. It's the least you can do to maintain your honor since restitution is so obviously out of the question. Right?

  23. Re:This is exactly what America needs. on Is Simplified Spelling Worth Reform? · · Score: 1

The vast majority of indian languages that have descended from the ancient sanskrit scripts use a purely phonetical alphabet and have done so for thousands of years. A few of the modern incarnations of oriental ideographic alphabets are also purely phonetical. The advantage of phonetic languages is the precise way every sound in the language can be expressed but the disadvantage is the inability to compactly refer to new phonemes as they are incorporated into the culture as a result of immigration. English took the roman script and started creating an endless series of edge cases of phonemes by combining the alphabet in phonetically meaningless ways. Decoding works something like this:

A grouping of letters has to be decoded into a phoneme by comparing it against the longest sequence of letter-combo phonemes in use. A tree search if you will. Once a leaf node is encountered the phoneme is decoded according to the local accent.

Now if the popular consciousness picks up on the pronunciation of a new phoneme (fashion, fad, etc) a new grouping is created by the dictionary authors and its uniqueness is added to the collective =D
