Whould you turn down a offer like that? Most small irc networks whould not. Setting up IRC server is cheap and if they really want to spy on you, they just talk you into linking. SSL connection and other junk won't help you then. All they need to read all network traffic is one corrupt box.

I use KDE on my laptop, a laptop that I take with me everywhere. Since ACPI is not fully supported yet, I can't suspend it, wich means I have to boot sevral times a day. KDE takes longer to start then the kernel to boot and that is quite anoying.
Also think of where linux is used on a family pc, where the users log out after use. (Yes you can start servral X sessions, but who does that?).
This is a giant step for the linux desktop system! It's a proof that linux has become such a mature desktop system that attackers asume it has bunch of regulare John-Doe's!
