I don't think we need to discover all planets to know how common planets are. If we do another couple of Keplers, looking at different areas of the sky, we can use statistics to give a very good estimate. That is doable this decade or next.
Once we have discovered a couple hundred viable planets, we do analysis of the atmosphere to look for signs of life. If life is as "easy" as seems to be the thought process today then we should find evidence to support. If a couple hundred planets turns up no evidence, then we have some things to rethink.
So, although we might not have a complete wikipedia of the galaxy, we should have enough to extrapolate reasonably.
I reject the idea of unions for IT professionals. I wholeheartedly agree with belonging to professional groups (they seem to be pretty rare) for sharing information and organizing informally. I don't see lawyer's unions or doctor's unions and don't see the need for IT unions.
You are (mostly)quite correct. My argument would be that we clean up those loopholes instead of putting a duct tape solution on those problems that really don't solve anything. If one is paid in stock, then one would have to account for that in one's income tax. Where I think you are slightly wrong is I believe what they are really getting is a modified stock option that skirts the law. Correct the law so that this must be counted as income... clearly there is constructive receipt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructive_receipt) by virtue of the fact they are getting a loan based on the stock or stock option.
Bottom line, is I believe that consumption should be taxed not investment. It would be a big shift in our economy, but a positive one.
It may not be a popular position, but I don't think corporations should pay income taxes. Instead, we should increase tax rates on higher incomes. If owners want to reinvest their profits into a company, it is a good thing for the economy long-term. Taxes instead should come from consumption. If we had a 50% top end income tax rate and a 0% corporate tax rate, a good deal of the tax avoidance schemes would go away -- no not all of them, but a great deal of them.
That and we should get rid of the mortgage interest deduction.
Serious question. Are you autistic? I'm not sure how something so small can irritate someone so much and am wondering if you have some type of syndrome that might explain it.
Wow. You found out I was Timmy. I am not sure how you did it, but I bow to your insight. You gotta tell me though... did you hack into the server to find out my IP address is the same as Tim's? Regardless, you are clearly brilliant.
I couldn't possibly pick a best one. There were at least four that stand out as being really top notch. And in things like art, I don't know how one evaluates on a linear scale.
I liked the logos changing. I don't like the whole voting on the best thing.
Your suspicion would be wrong. There is no group that is excluded, again with narrow exceptions. An "Arsonists United" group would not be permitted for obvious reasons, but Wicca groups exist that use schools and I'm sure you can find others. Your feelings are pretty irrelevant. Court cases are available online if you would like to exercise your brain instead.
I think you are missing the point and that the judicial system disagrees with you. Gov't may not promote religion. But they also cannot discriminate against it. If the school is open to the community then it has to be open to all, not just what you agree with. There are narrow exceptions to the rule, but overall it is about fairness. You are free to open a "I am against religion" group and ask to have your meetings at one of these schools. I am fine with that. What I am not fine with and neither are the courts who ruled on these cases is folks like you who want to use the state as your weapon to either promote or silence religion.
Help me out here. The garbage is going to decompose anyhow and release the greenhouse gases. Sweden isn't doing anything to increase the gasses and might actually be reducing it. And this is before you take into account the greenhouse gas savings from not producing electricity from coal or natural gas. So how is what Sweden is doing causing an increase in greenhouse gasses?
I think you are missing quite a bit here. The schools in question are already opening their buildings up to outside groups after hours. The court cases simply state that the state (who runs the schools) do not have the right to be discriminatory in who they open it up to with some narrow exceptions. Churches (which are not run by the state) are not required to do anything, the same as you don't have to open up your house to the Young Republican's Club. What is so hard to understand about that?
It would largely depend on what is meant by Satanism. I am far from an expert on the "religion", but I understand some who use the term have quite different definitions of what Satanism even is. It can go from benign to very dark. If the group meeting is not promoting activities that bring harm to the public, then they would have as much right to meet as any other group.
can we get a 24/7 task-force after rachel from card services?
Better yet, seal team six.
My understanding is this is the real reason that we sent a Seal team to Pakistan. Here is part of the transcript I intercepted.
Team Six: It appears intelligence was not accurate. H Clinton: Oh no. You can't mean.... Team Six: No, it isn't Rachel, it is just Osama. H Clinton: Damn Team Six: Aborting mission.... Obama: Maybe we can get some good press out of this anyhow H Clinton: Maybe. Team Six: You want us to off him? Obama: Yeah, what the heck. It won't be the same, but I am sure it will get me some points in the approval ratings. God knows I'm not doing well right now. Team Six: You got it.
I love (sarcastically) the part abou investigative journalism about Good News Club. You can learn everything you'd want to know about GNC and Child Evangelism Fellowship from their own promotional materials. Basically, they work in neighborhoods and schools around the US (and internationally) for after and before school programs tageting pre-teenagers. They do often use teachers who have a Christian faith to lead these clubs. What the atheists view as blurring the lines between school (state) and religion, CEF would say that teachers are muzzled during the school day but are free to express their opinions after they are "off the clock".
Regardless of your views on the subject, noting CEF does through its GNCs is secret. Go visit one of their offices and they'll gladly explain everything they do. Heck, if you want you can show up at one of their clubs and I doubt you will be turned away. So the investigative journalism part seems to be the equivilent of a researcher who only reads Wikipedia.
Some atheists argue GNC should be baneed fom publically funded schools. CEF argues that if other activities are allowed after school hours that GNC should be allowed as well. So far the courts have mostly agreed with CEF and I tend to agree. If there can be a Republican and Democrat actvist group meeting with students then I don't see how GNC somehow becomes unconstitutional.
So, not only do we display such stories as the shocking revleation that Apple was going to live stream its product announcement (only to Apple owners), but now we get stories about what Apple thinks about other products. Is anyone shocked that Apple is less-than-impressed with a Microsoft product? Next we'll have a story about how Mitt Romney thinks Obama has made policy mistakes.
Can you comment on the summary and article's claim that it had taken electrical systems off line? I seriously don't understand the mechanics behind all of this and would like to understand a little bit more.
They're cutting it down by 10%? Sounds like we have bigger fish to fry then!
You do realize that words change in meaning over time right?

Well, you won't get your mod point back but thanks for the explanation.
I have a different term for it. I call it consulting my lawyer.
Serious question. Are you autistic? I'm not sure how something so small can irritate someone so much and am wondering if you have some type of syndrome that might explain it.
Obama needs to change his campaign slogan to "GM is Alive and Rachel is Dead". He'll win in a landslide.

I have no way of getting on the internet.
No, the study size is much larger than two http://www.childtrauma.org/images/stories/Articles/mindbrain.pdf

The report ignores the energy input of the sunlight. It may be economically sensible to ignore that, but on a thermodynamic level it's stupid.
So, let me get this straight. You are looking for a process that produces more energy than it requires in inputs. And you are citing thermodynamics?
