To anyone reading: If you ever find yourself getting into a situation like this, remember that verbal conversations mean nothing.
Call the company. Get the name of the person you are speaking to. Follow up with a letter referencing the phone call. Include the name of the person you skpoke with, then date and time of the call. Mail it the same day. Have it delivered certified mail. Keep a copy. Keep your signature notifcation.
You are probably aware now that this would have saved you at least 2,150 of the 2,500 that got charged to you. But as you say, they are willing to take you for a ride when then know you are young and inexperienced.
Their "it needs to work through the system" should be their problem, not yours. But after the fact, you have no proof of what happened.
Hopefully, this will save someone else some money and headache.
Anyone else see the flaw? If it gives you a 'If this was real, you would be in trouble" message, then a lot of the folks may have opened it in response to co-worker's discussions about the "test". To make this a more reliable test, the executable should have done nothing.
Now, ahving said that, I bet the click-through rate does not drop below 60%:)
Odd. I also have Visa, and have travelled without issues. I have heard other stories like yours, and would like to figure out what the triggering factor is. Has there ever been any reports of fraud on your account?
Also, is it Visa, or is it the issuer of the card that determines the "anal retentive" level?
Since the U.S. federal government limits my liability to $50 for someone fraudulently using my credit card, and all of my credit card companies waive even that, I don't care who uses my credit card.
Not entirely true. If it can be shown that your negligence contributed to the fraudulant usage of your card, you can be held liable. Granted, you have to really be careless for this to ever be an issue.
For example, loaning it to your friend to make a purchase. He/she makes other purchases on the card, well... you are screwed. The other common occurence is when you do not report a card stolen right away. Then, you can also be held liable.
I've heard of very few instances of this ever being an issue. But do not take the limited liablility policy to be an excuse to be careless. It can come back to bite you.
Unforunately, he will need a few million more of these suckers (no pun intended) before he shows up on the list. Perhaps a better one would have been hot albino gay cock. Much less likely someone will look up based on this, but much more likely he will float to the top.
If you could find me a good source for total employment by country (raw number of full-time workers), I'd be grateful. I think this number would cut through a lot of the BS you mention. Unfortunately, no sites I have found show this number.
You miss the point. His link did not get to the top through his sig (which you can't see either since you are not logged in). His sig is invisible to those who are not logged in (like Google's search engine). It got to the top through other sources.
Denmark's 2003 unemployment was 6.6%.
Finland's 2003 unemploymen was 9%.
Did not check the other countries' rates. Could someone with more time check this out?
I am a free market guy. I also understand the limitations of free market. Occasionally, it is necessary for gov'y to step in to ensure that the profit motives of corporations do not step on the wished of society (labor laws, international restrictions on export, import). This is not bad. It is only bad when it becomes so restrictive that markets become inefficient to the point of not beefitting society as a whole.
The U.S. tends to be so Free Market that corps step on the little guy. Europe tends to be so restrictive that they have double digit unemployment in their largest countries. At some point, someone will realize there is a blance between the two.
1) I did not read the article. But I think they may earn $100 million in revenue. NOT profit. This would cut into their profit margin by 20%.
2) Fines have to be implemented. You say take away things that they need to stay in power, such as forcing them to open their protocols, or greater interoperability. But if Microsoft fails to comply? What are you going to do? Whine and pout? You have to fine them. And if that fails, prevent them from selling in your member countries.
3) Ultimately it is money that a corporation is interested in, and SHOULD be interested in. It is up to gov't to create a system that makes that interest for money compatable with the wishes of society.
Not sure why you were modded down. Your question and point are very valid. All I can say is that I am as confused as you are:) I will continue to fiddle around and see if I can get a better understanding of what is causing the problem.
Except I CAN burn from Windows Media Player and am able to play on the older CD players. I am confused and befuddled. Oh well, this isn't tech support:)
No. I have burnt from Windows Media Player, and they work fine. I've googled my problem several times, and haven't found anything to help. I am not much of an audiphile, so it is highly probable that it is something stupid I am doing.
But does the DRM have anything to do with the fact that my older CD players will not play any CD where I burn a mix from a playlist? I'd really like an answer to this one:) If so, I may check out DVDJon's program.
It is frustrating to have bought songs from iTunes, and be limited where I can play them. I understand the wanting to squash piracy, but when people who are above-board are punished, it is frustrating
Ouch.

Out of curiosity, which CC company?

My signature is basically a W with a line after.
Wow! Please to meet you Mr. President!
I always love superficial analysis like this. The fact is France and Germany's unemployment has been trouble for decades.

The US has had some trouble spots. But none like you mention:

Unless I am mistaken, your sig is not picked up by Google. Sorry.

And at some point, I will realize there is a preview button so I can stop my typographical errors.

I'm not sure what universe you live in, but $1.8 billion dollars per year is a lot of money. Even to Microsoft. This amounts to 20% of their profits.
Thanks for the tip. I will give that a try when I get home from work.

No. Post your name, address and phone number. THEN you will be openly admitting to being a thief.

Yep. Hence my sig :)
Thanks for the explanation. This one actually makes sense :) I still say this clock is only cool in the geek-wannabe sense.
Sorry, I had to look up "BCD" to find out what it meant. Why would anyone use BCD over binary?
