    It is a weak "binary" clock. It transfors the individual decimal digits into binary. Hense 11:17 become 01 0001 01 0111. In reality, if we were using a binary system, the time should be 1011 010001. Not very geeky if you asked me.

    Please do not negatively meta-moderate the 40% who have chosen the parent post to be 'Over-rated'. These two people represent our "West Virginia" contingent (also the only two people in the state who can read). They consider the weekly bathing routine to be normal, and do not realize the rest of shower more regularly.

    Bailey said although he didn't have definite knowledge the leak was official, the quality of the episode is highly suspicious. If it were an unofficial leak, it would likely be of poor quality, he said.

    The BBC denied any part in the distribution of the episode.

    I am glad to see cooperation between the two continents. I know it is fashionable to be pro-Europe/Anti-American or Anti-European/Pro-American. However, ultra-nationalism ends up being a detriment to mankind as a whole.

    I hope we continue to build bridges between the continents...

    I was refering to personal letters, with a traditional stamp. However, even my junk mail is a vast improvement over spam. Because it costs money, the ads are at least SOMEWHAT targeted at my interests and demographics. This is the unforunae ide effect of making something free. It quickly becomes devalued as well (and no... those are not necissarily synonymous).

    If someone sends me a snail mail letter, the quality tends to be much higher than e-mail. Electronic media tends to make things so easy that folks don't put much forethought into their writings? Want proof? Look at my comment history :)

    A Microsoft product, and a comparable non-Microsoft product are referenced in the article. The non-Microsoft product gets slammed first. I can't think of a better demonstration of the crappy corporate practices of Real.

    How many shuttle missions do we have a year? This one would chew up one of those missions. I would call sending a mission up just to repair this thing very expensive.

    As far as a gap period... yes, we would have a gap period. I somehow doubt, though, that in a multi-billion year old universe, that having a three or four year gap is going to lose data.

    Yes, it would suck not having data coming in. But I would rather see the money go into building something with a wider wavelength capability, and with a longer life-time.

    Sometimes to win long-term, you have to make short-term sacrifices (in fact, it is almost always so).

    I do not see a US Congressperson being the best decision maker in this case. If they were, we would not be running a 500 billion dollar deficit.

    Another question: My understanding is that the repair will require a shuttle mission. What mission do you have to give up in order to do this mission?

    It is easy to be for something when you don't consider what you have to give up to make it happen.

    Sorry for my earlier rudeness. Finances is a ot-topic wit me. It is frustrating to see otherwise intellegent people get themselves into bondage because they have never been taught money handling skills.

    One thing that might help you: Open a second account (non-checking) account for your medium term savings. E-Trade has some nice accounts avaailable. By going non-checking, you get rid of the impulse spend decisions. Also, I believe they can automatically withdraw money from another account so that in essence, you have yet another bill... but this bill is benefitting you.

    At least you admit the problem :)

    Some suggestions... Max your 401(k) contribution if it is available. Always good to get the money into savings before you see it. If not available, there are IRA programs that will electronically withdraw money from your account on a periodic basis for no fee.

    Second, use auto-deposit. Something psychological about not going to the bank and cashing a check that keeps our from spending as much.

    Third, if you have a problem with creit cards, don't carry them with you. I use a cc for all purchase for tracking purposes. However, the are paid off before I get a finance charge, and they all give me cash back (or free gas).
