    I'm patenting a method where you click on a link and yo return a '404' for the first five minutes the link is avaialable. You leave some kind of message indicating you should try again, thereby increasing page views and advertizing rates.

    Most of this "skepticism" of the government is a canard that's been propagated by the authoritarian Right Wing.

    Most of this skepticism was started by our founding fathers. You might want to read some history books.

    While I understand your position, I am always very skeptial when the gov't steps in to "fix" the media. While there is precedent for this type of behavior, my concern is that the law will be applied in an inequitable manor. Is "more minorities" a code word for more liberal points of view? If so, then we should not be having the government step in to enforce so called quotas.

    I thought the same thing when I first read it. However, it is entirely possible that there are simply two different definitions for the same phrase. Anyone with a better insight on this?

    But Linux and most Linux programs are already more "trusted" then Windows can ever be. From being open source, how can you not trust it?

    Did you even read the summary? Or were you just going for first post?

    This is about locking down the workstation so that users can't monkey around. I do not care how well the code is written, a malicious user can create a security issue if he/she has the ability to do so.

    I still use the server, but only for development work. I wanted a "family" computer for letting the wife and kids play on without worrying about what would get screwed up when I was in the middle of playing with something.

    Doing something as simple as using a crossover cable to transfer data between the two turned into a nightmare as the "very intelligent" windows explorer dropped me to under 100K/sec download speeds. I have never seen anything so slow since the 90's.

    Yes It will. It is called 'do the same for all files' or something similar. Apparently the old style confirmation was too simple.

    When I copy a bunch of files from one directory to another, I get 'Explorer has stopped working and must restart'. I've resorted to using DOS to copy the files. I wish I had stuck with 2000 Server :)

    When will you learn? Apple knows it will never stop hackers 100%. If they make it risky and a pain, then these hacks will not be widely applied. If less than 1% of their customer base hack their phone, then AT&T is happy. Apple gets lucrative licensing fees and their stock price goes up. This is the bottom line of ALL publicly owned companies.

    Kudos to the hackers. But kudos also to Apple for their bricking strategy. Spread FUD, increase shareholder wealth.

    Actually, this just goes to show you can draw any conclusions you want with any fact you want.

    When I was in high school, I remember our science teacher talking about this. Since the appendix doesn't do anything it is a vestigial organ. Why would God give us an organ that doesn't do anything. This fact disproved God. In fact, he argued, evolution is the only mechanism that would produce vestigial organs, and in fact evolution PROVES that there must be vestigial organs left over after changes in biology cause some organs to lose their purpose.

    I wonder if he has gotten religion since then.

    Perhaps. But basic editing means you explain what acronyms are unless you are 100% confident you audience knows the term. Granted, I bet 90% of us do. But even when I first saw it, it did not jump to mind. It took a second or to.

    I know that Slashdot prides itself on not filtering user submissions. But as long as Slashdot refers to its... its... ermmmm... people who hit the approve button as editors, they should be held to editorial standards.
