I thought this sounded like too bid a news story to not have heard about.
Read the article. It doesnt say it will be split, it talks about rumors that a split might have been approved by the *cabinet*, that means the bill probably hasn't even been written yet, even if you assume that the rumour is true.
Thats not to say it wont happen at some time in the future, but at the moment its just speculation, and the title of the story is grossly misleading

Because you can't be both, at least not well. The interests of consumer electronics (ease of use, low price, lots of features) are opposed the the media division (DRM, hard to use, many many copying restrictions).

Yeah, I saw something on that as well. I had always assumed that the child soilders thing was because they were short on soilders and children are easy to kidnap. Turns out they're actually pretty great killers I guess its all to do with brain development.Kids lack a clear sense of death , so they dont have any problems with fear. Follow orders without question, its like kids that age especially males are programmed to do what the alpha male says without thinking. And if you've ever seen a bunch of ten year olds ganging up on the kid with the glasses (or whatever) you'll know that they can be completely ruthless. The only thing going against them is the lack of physical strength, but I guess as long as your strong enough to aim and fire an ak, it doesnt really matter.

  6. Re:NO! Here's their REAL shuffle competition on Sony takes on iPod Shuffle · · Score: 1
To me the real competition to the shuffle is the no name hong kong imports off ebay. You can get a 512mb player off ebay for about $70AU whereas the shuffle cost over $200.

I understand the price gap is not so large in other countries, for some reason apple decided to really mark things up here. But I think the comparision is still vaild.

In any case, the point is that any player more expensive than the shuffle will never compete with it. In the publics mind the iPod is the top of the line player. Why would you buy one of these sony players when you can get a 'better' one for less money.

The only way to get around that is some clever marketing that makes people thing your product is cooler. And I don't think that is the case here, judging by the fact that they couldn't even think of a better name than the NF0507, or whatever.

Yeah, things were so much better back in the day, when kids knew how to speak to their elders and we didnt need no damn computers to calculate our square roots. The thing that bothers me about it is this, technology is always advancing, and people are always forgetting more primitive knowlage that is no longer required. Do you know how to forge iron using only basic tools? No, because now we have factorys to do it for us. You dont see anyone going "Oh, people have become so used to industry that they forget that you can go out smelt things be hand"
