Correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard, on TV in the UK they are much stricter about violence but much more leniant about swearing and nudity. My guess is its probably like that in Australia also. The USA is the other way around.
I don't think this is really THAT bad or anything. Sure it could be considered "suggestive" but its done in a very subtle way. I don't think an 8 year old reading the ad would really get "get it". Also, Nintendo has done things like this before. Most of you probably don't know this, but Nintendo actually had a Mario Sunshine ad in Playboy magazine.=)
Um, just because ways might exist to get around the Xbox mod checks does not mean its "futile". Anything that reduces the amount of cheaters is a good thing.
Just wanted to point out that these censorship policies don't apply anymore. This is what Nintendo used before the ESRB was around. Nintendo does very little censoring of games anymore (except maybe 1st party games).
Almost all of the top power sellers on eBay use PayPal. In fact I have a guide to selling on eBay book and it says when selling on eBay, you should only accept PayPal because its the least problamatic. If PayPal was so bad then all these powersellers would not be using it. Its really easy to read a few horror stories and not get the big picture. Fact is, 99 percent of the people have had no issues with PayPal. Go look at the Better Business Bureau rating of Pay
Pal and you will see that its rated very highly.
In my experience, most people who get spyware don't even know how they got it. Should you really have to read through a huge 20 page EULA everytime you install software (or an ActiveX control) just so you can find one sentence where it mentions "this will install spyware". Thats absurd to expect people to do that. Some of it even installs itself on to your computer by taking advantage of a security hole in the browser, so their is no EULA. Of course legislating spyware won't stop it totally but at least it will reduce it.
The problem with Palms and Pocket PC's for GPS use is that they are not very outdoor proof. Also, the button layout is not very convenient. If you want a good, fairly low priced GPS I recommend the Garmin Quest. You can get it for around 500.
I have always said that optical media is a poor choice for portables (long before the PSP was announced). Optical media will ALWAYS reduce the battery life greatly because the motor sucks batteries dry. In fact Sony is so worried about battery life that they have battery life estimator software, so that developers will make sure that games don't eat up to much of the PSP's battery. So load times will be longer because developers have to limit how often the disc is accessed. =/ Battery life is very important for portables, and we don't really need FMV and tons of voice acting and CD quality sound in portable games. Save all that for the home consoles.
"Exactly. What I find strange is that we're talking about the idea of improving "efficiency" on the battlefield as if it's a good thing. War should be difficult. It shouldn't be a cakewalk to go in and kill a bunch of people. Killing people, especially innocent civilians, SHOULD be difficult, if not because your conscience is stopping you, then maybe because the technology has problems, or it's not practical.."
D00d, I think your missing something. The more advanced technology we have, the less chance another country wants to go to war with us.=) Also, things like GPS and laser guided bombs greatly reduce civilian casulties. Oh, and EMP bombs, those are fun. =)
Gah, can't we talk about something interesting besides arguing about the war.:p Anywaaaaaaay, saying that the technology "failed" is a little silly. Sure everything might not have worked flawlessly but in many situations I am sure it helped greatly. I am sure I could find many articles which show success stories due to the increased communication. Also, in a full scale war where we (the USA) would be fighting a more advanced country, wireless communication could actually be jammed so the military still needs to be able to coordinate attacks without becoming to dependant on wireless communication.
Sorry d00ds, but I prefer to play my games at full speed.=) None of this emulation for me. Also, even though Doom III is written for Linux the Linux version is much much slower than the Windows version.=/ Windows is much better for games, no contest.
Sorry, I made a mistake with the link: http://www.clickteam.com/English/multimedia_fusion.htm Most of you could have probably figured that out though, RIGHT?.
You could reduce costs by a huge amount if you used something like Multimedia Fusion: http://www.clickteam.com/English/multimedia_fusion.htm
You don't have to do nearly as much testing because programs made in Multimedia Fusion always work on a wide variety of computers. Heck, you could probably even use Adventure Game Studio to make a commercial 2D adventure game (although you would be more limited then you would be using Multimedia Fusion)! Try thinking outside the box a little! =)
I think you guys are way overanalyzing this. Lets face it, the most simple explanations are usually the best. The fact is, girls don't play games because they suck at them, in general. Many men also suck at games, but the chances of a man sucking at a game are much less then the chances of a girl sucking at said game. Did you see in that white paper where it said something like "girls would play games more often if games did not penalize the player so much for losing". As if games are not way to easy these days we need to make them even easier so the girls don't get frustrated? Ugh...... What I have just said also explains why girls prefer games that require no skill such as the Sims, and Final Fantasy games. Sorry I am not trying to offend anyone, this is just what I think.=) I am sure some girls are great at games, just most of them are really bad.
