    40% faster.

    Not at current prices. Paying $500 for a 40% performance increase isn't that great of a deal. Especially since I updated my components last year because Ryzen didn't come out soon enough.

    And the date on that is... today! The Ryzen 1700 has better performance but the FX-8300 still has a better price/performance ratio.

    For AMD vs. Intel. I've yet to see one for AMD vs. AMD.

    I work for a nation-wide project where the senior system admins are paid $50K+ per year and computer engineers are paid $80K+ per year (regardless of where you live). We're half-way through a five year contract. Last I heard we had 1,000+ people on the contract.

    Could it be because you have no applicable experience on real servers, you were kicked out of college, and you have that autism thing going on, so no one in their right mind would want you on their team?

    I've been working in Silicon Valley for 20+ years. Half that time in team lead positions.

    What you are called is "PC Support" - usually a branch of level 2 helpdesk.

    Help desk is down the hallway from my office. Users don't bang down my door.

    That would align with your experience as well as your salary.

    The prime contractor low-balled the techs. But five years of guaranteed work and the usual benefit pack with 20 PTO days was too good to past up. Plus my contracting agency gave me extra month of pay as a Christmas bonus.

    I was on the express bus in Palo Alto when we drove past an auto accident on 280 North yesterday morning. The front end of a Ferrari got smashed in, parked on the side of the freeway. A second vehicle was nowhere in sight. The driver was walking in the slow lane while talking on the cellphone, ignoring traffic and everything else. May have been drunk.

    I saved up and took a planned vacation that lasted seven days. I didn't spend $400 per night pissing it away on wine. If you understood anything about finances, you spend your money on experiences and not piss.

    Supervisor got escorted off the premises by the police. The establishment therefore can prove that they took the necessary steps to protect their liquor license. AFAIK, the supervisor never faced any legal action. The underage employee did get fired, which many of testers thought was wrong. Hence, the supervisor got promoted out of the department..

    There seems to be an abundance of college grads and useless developers who refuse to keep up-skilled yet feel they deserve massive paychecks just for being American and knowing what a .exe file does.

    Most Americans stop learning after leaving school because think learning is only required for school. They don't become lifelong learners. I had two friends who went from computer engineers to drug store clerks after the dot com bust because they refused to learn outside of the classroom.

    The supervisor threatened to fire anyone caught sleeping during the overnight shifts. My assistant lead tester caught him napping at his desk, wrote on a Post-It note that the supervisor should fire himself, and stick the note to the supervisor's head. When the supervisor woke up and found the note, he went screaming around the department trying to find out who wrote the note. He never did find it out who it was.

    If you can abuse the system, so can I.

    My actions were lawful. Any retaliation against would be illegal.

    Not quite. Being promoted to producer is regarded by most video game testers as being a failure. The supervisor failed big time with this promotion. Unfortunately, video game testing is dead end job with limited opportunities for promotion. When I became a lead tester, I started my exit strategy by getting my IT certifications and going by to school.

    I once took a date to the company Christmas party at Dave & Buster's when I was a lead video game tester. We left at the exact same time as the police were coming in to escort my supervisor out for letting an under-age employee take a slip of kamikaze drink. My supervisor got promoted to producer.     You sound like my older brother. He owns a landscaping design business, a big house, two cars and two trucks, and buys $180 designer jeans. Yeah, he's a rich fuck. Unfortunately, he 60-years-old, can't retire and have to keep on working. The mortgage on his house is underwater (he bought at the height of real estate market), he spends every dime that his business makes, his credit cards are maxed out, and the banks won't loan him any money. His 40-year-old trophy wife will inherit the house and screw over his adult children.

    I've been on this site since late 97 or maybe early 98. it was winter, and I just graduated highschool.
