Why stop at the game maker, lets include the gun maker, probably ebay or amazon who he bought the game from, Hanes since his underwear must not have been giving the right support, and then lets sue the maker of the TV that he played the game on because it did not make the game real enough so he had to go try it out for real. I hate lawyers that do this. They make American look like idiots. Wait, I guess most of us are...(shaking head)

200GB is not good enough. Get a seperate server that you can set up a RAID with some hotswap capabilities. Then in the server get a backup tape or external SCSI tape device to handle daily incremental and weekly full backups. This will cost you about $9K for a minimum setup using name brand hardware and software.

Not that I recommend Dell, but it is easy to configure and price a system like a poweredge 1800 with RAID 5, and 5 146GB drives with 2GB of RAM will give you a very good redundant system and then add a PowerVault 110 with 400/800GB tape backup.

This will give you almost 600GB of reliable data storage and then the tape backup will keep it safe. Last thing you need is a Media Safe that will be fireproof. Don't look at the cheap models at Office Max because those are just document safes and will not prevent your media from melting.

Using this as a guide you can start to price things out with other vendors, but you better be prepared so spend some bucks for your professional setup

I don't let my son watch MTV because of all the losers that are on it. He gets enough of that at school so now I need to worry what MTV is going to do with this site.

He has been on Neopets early on and now at 13, he is very proficient at the site. It has addictive qualities to it and I must say that it is one of the most successful sites I know of and that includes the ebays of the world. It does not have that Slashdot effect because it does not influence other site, but it does have a major influence on those who are on it. I can always track back whatever my son asks for to things that I see in his history on the computer.

  10. Re:Gaming in the Classroom on Gaming In the Classroom · · Score: 1

There is only so far that gaming can go on their own to keep kids using what they learn. Teachers do not have the time to be concerned about games when they are getting pressed to meet academic goals that are unreachable with the idiots that are in schools. THe middle school my son goes to purposely teaches only what is necessary to meet the lowest acceptable level for Math for the state because most of the students could not pass anything higher and the teacher may need to work harder to teach it. Back on subject...Games can be education if the parents are also involved. I place CC Generals with my son and teach him how to work together and develop tactics. Since I have my own computer room for the kids that has 4 computers in there he brings over friends and they develop alliances and communicate both verbally and non-verbal using the computer and pen and paper (if they want to be discreet) to team up against opponents. Things like this also got my son into history because much of our history is based on wars of some sort. He wants to know why China is considered a bad guy in the game. Now he is searching out those answers and reports back to me when he has exciting news. Parents must be involved, and unfortunately some parents can not help because of time, money or lack of ability. My wife could never do what I do with him on the computer. My son definately would choose a computer to reading a book. So now he is reading HTML instead of ink-on-paper.

  15. Big retailers will put YOU in the poor house! on Best Buy: 20% Of Customers Are Wrong · · Score: 2, Insightful

This is yet another example of a big retailer trying to satisfy the corporate goal of more, more, more. I work for a supplier to retailers such as Target, Dillards, Ace Hardware, WalMart, and many others. Our product does well, but we are required by some that if the consumer returns the product, we must take it back and give the retailer all of their money back.

Bed Bath Beyond is the biggest culprit of this. So they give us a forecast of what they want for Christmas and if they are wrong, they make us take back all of our product that did not sell. Last year we had to cut an employee because Bed Bath over estimated their sales. Just because they did not want to look bad on Wall Street.

This year we are not selling to Bed Bath. We are one of the few vendors that have refused to sell to Bed Bath Beyond...according to them. This will hurt you in the long run because of higher prices and if you work for one of the vendors to a big retailer, you are living by their marketing scheme. If it is bad, watch out for your job.
