For an ok connection (5Mb/s d, 1Mb/s u), I pay $25 Canadian. That's what? $18 American? And because I am a university student, I get a discount (both major broadband subscribers in my area, one a DSL provider and the other cable, offer discounts to students). And don't say geographrical disparity is the reason for low penetration. In the province where I live, Saskatchewan, we have less than a million people living in an area the size of Texas. All spread out over farms. Yet even the ones in the far north can at least get satellite "high speed". And in the south, people can get wireless highspeed, as our GOVERNMENT RUN telco is putting up wireless towers all over the place to allow rural areas access.
So I can finally thrown away my old carrier pidgeon and volkswagon van and tapes?
On another note, how many Libraries of Congress per second are we talking about? Because for me, 2 or 3 just ain't enough.
So in the future our TVs will be nanometre sized? Cool. I hope we all have those enhanced eyes that were talking about last week as well, by then. That way I can zoom in and watch TV while I'm flying my flying car, which will go 254 Football Fields per Library of Congress.
All in 5 years...
To whomever posted this, do you have a user name for slashdot? I would like to add it to my friend list if at all possible, as shallow as that sounds.
While I am new to this situation, I would like to learn more, as I trust slashdot for useful information and do not want to support a situation where a man is earning money by basically stealing information from others and redirecting traffic.
Of course, I have no way to know if anyone contacts me if they are the poster of this thread. So maybe I'll withdraw that request. Nonetheless, I do sincerely respect you for taking a bit of charge on this issue. Here's to hoping slashdot may eventually put an end to this practice.
"We can't seem to find the motherboard. Hmm. Bob, reconfigure the main sensor array to compensate for the interferometric particles being emitted from the cooling fan. Yeah...yeah, that should do it. Alright, now let's re-polarize the tachyon emitter to locate trace particles from the cloaked mobo..."
So you're basically saying that we'll be the last to be rounded up? That's not too bad. I mean, we'll most likely see used car salesmen and jocks taken before us internet scum. So for a few weeks, we'll be the cocks of the nest...er...or, the roosters of the roost.... Bah! Whatever the metaphor is, that's what it'll be.
I was hoping that we as a society was passed the "add an X or Z to something to make it sound exciting" phase in our development.

LOLzors, I appear to have made a formatting error. This should fix it.

Don't worry guys, I have a mirror here to the picture, it's not so bad! http://blipart.com/b3ta/humphjump.jpg
So the AP is going to charge the posting of members online? This is a dark day for the free online porn industry.
If I had mod points, or if people didn't hate me, I'd rate this up +1 funny.

Next we're going to get a story about how Microsoft has actually found a use for .NET
Ah, I've heard of this product...made at Tekkerson Tech?
Of course, if any interferometric particles get in the way of the photons, we'll have to reconfigure the lateral sensor array.
IBM may be able to trace the past of Wiki with their computers, but I can track it's future with my Wiji!
I find it *shocking* that you believe their technology has remained *static*!

Yeah, what kind of ashhole modded down my post? No matter! I don't need to crater to such people.
This story is just a bunch of hot air.
I live Regina, just south of Saskatoon, and I pay $25CDN (so about $18US) for 5mbps down and 1mbps up.
I'm sure if we need it, we can get an abundant supply of gas from Uranus!
He didn't leave any Dark Matter in our solar system. He must have done a thorough wipe of Uranus.
True to the format of the Cell architecture, it requires a cluster of slashdot posts to explain.

Pencils haven't changed in the last 10 years either, but I don't recall any chapter in History 100 about the death of pencils.
Rolando Alert!
Yeah, I thought it might just be a standardized response.
