Casual users don't modify config files. They can just type etc-update and select the -5 option to automatically merge the new config files with no prompt.
I'm constantly typing emerge -uDa world. One thing nicer about apt is that it prompts for confirmation on a apt-get upgrade by default, saving me the bother of typing the -a option. I like to know what is being changed before I do an upgrade.
Just a minor nitpick: there are no 'degrees Kelvin'. It is simply 'Kelvin' (K), e.g. it is about 280 K outside my window right now.
I mention this not to be pedantic, but rather because I believe that adherence to the SI standard is a necessary ingriedient for clear scientific discussion.

Ah, I'm using 1.x. I try to stick to amd64 rather than ~amd64 when I can, so that difference didn't even occur to me.
5 CDs? Try 1 CD for Ubuntu, or 60 MB for Gentoo. Distro X != All Distros.

Strange, I'm running 64-bit Gentoo and I have not experienced any issues with oo.org. When I first installed I did `emerge openoffice-bin` and it has been working perfectly ever since. Yes, it's 32-bit, but the integration is seamless.
An Apple logo, duh.
I always thought the rule of thumb was the heavier the PSU, the higher the quality.
If I die, I really could not care less what happens to my inventions after that. Patents, like copyrights, should die with the inventor.
Nearly a hundred years from now?
You can expect to see very advanced optical computing long before then, which should negate the need for copper in non-power applications.
Easier:
apt-get update -q && apt-get upgrade -qy
Only have to press return once, and no scary scrolling terminal messages.

e^jx that is. I should learn to preview.
I prefer the actual Euler's formula instead of the special case. e^x = cosx+jsinx

Ubuntu is funded by an independantly wealthy billionaire. I would hardly consider it a charity.
Why don't you try it out, and report back here.
I'd pay a dollar to see that.
What does CS have to do with engineering?

It's spelled 'viruses'.
At least it's not a dupe... yet.

Just press Ctrl-F and bypass using the Alt key all together. Fewer keystrokes and no need for a workaround.
Stop spamming the board with that fake .sig. Just stop.
