IIRC, the Cell main CPU divided up the work by itself to the different sub-processors. So you'd just need to modify the source to run on Cell, not have to worry about breaking up the work.
I don't work in some big huge corporation or something, but I'm a student tech for my high school. I have to retrieve quite a few files for students, especially off slightly mangled floppy discs. I've learned to love hex editors in the process. High school kids can put an incredible amount of useless crap in a powerpoint or word doc, and openoffice can open them just fine, and resave them to office with no problems. I don't know how you can say 2.0 will fail horribly when 1.1 is fine for most importing anyway.
hey all, thanks for the help. UT runs better in linux then it ever did in windows. With the exception of rendered shadows, it looks just as sweet, too. And the sound is working, unlike doom3. So good times have begun. And once again, online play rules.
but do you want a few commies with tesla weaponry just sitting at the base of it for ever? They might get bored, accidents *might* occur.
It would be fucking sweet.
I'm only running a 20 gig drive for linux, since I got it for free at school. I have maybe 2 bucks in my bank account right now. But the baseball season and my job just started, so I'll have money pretty soon. I've also applied for a job at a couple local computer shops. Thanks for the offer, though. I've also got another gig on that drive that I could add on, since it was what I used for apache when I only ran windows. I'm going to try to add that on to my main partition the next time I have to reboot. Then I'll be putting UT on. I can also remove Doom3, since the sound is horribly broken on that right now. So I could put together extra open space, I think I'm gonna do that this weekend. The UT bug has been biting me harder and harder the more stuff I see about the sequel.
I absolutely love UT2K4, the only reason it's not installed right now is because I don't have any space to spare. If I installed it I'd be at under 500 MB space left, without any bonus packs or patches. I don't know how well linux runs in low free space, but I do know windows can't handle it, so I'm leary to try it. But I will have money for a bigger hard drive and the new UT by the time it comes out. CGW also ran an article about the new UT, also, a month or so ago. Needless to say, I am impressed, and they better continue the tradition of linux ports.
Well, my Athlon XP 2600+ kicks the shit out of the P4 2.6GHz comps at school, and most of the P4 2.8s. Even when we've got a clean comp in the lab to install everything on, nothing to begin with but vanilla XP, mine would start windows faster, even though it had to load apache, php, filezilla server, and about 5 other things in the tray. Now I run linux, and it just flies through the boot. Until it gets to the wireless driver, since it takes 5 seconds to associate with the network, but even with that it gets to a login prompt before the windows scroller is gone. I'm not even going to count the minute or so the school comps take once they get the loading network config window up, mine is usable at that point. In real world apps, AMD has the better line of processors from my experience using and pushing them.

It's from a local news paper here, I think it's an brilliant, and perfectly fits the DS. No subscription required, either. Summary: a virtual dog, pet it and stuff with the touch screen, autodetects other people playing the game and wirelessly joins and the dogs interact.
Firefox 2.0 will render/. properly.
I haven't been hit with the render bug since the upgrade to 1.0.2, actually. On both windows and linux versions of firefox, too. I'd say it is fixed from that. But if it isn't, I've just cursed myself to be hit by it.
nintendo also has better games and a better system overall, IMO. If they didn't miss the boat completely on internet gaming, they would be well ahead of the xbox for US sales. From what I've seen and played, the only way xbox has such a high amount of market share is xbox live. even if xbox is just decentralized internet play like the ps2 online, it wouldn't have nearly as many consoles in use as it does with live. Even though I'm not a fan of the box, xbox live does have it's strong points.
I'd say it's because the only killer app for xbox in the last year or so has come and gone. If people wanted to get halo 2, they would have within a month of it launching. Those who didn't buy at launch were either convinced for it or against it relatively soon after, so now halo 2 is the same as most games for sales. Now that the big event has passed, the market for xbox games is settling back down into it's old behavior.
What's the first thing every teenager wants (aside from girls)? Yup, their drivers license.
Well, I wanted more computer stuff. I've been able to get my driver's license for over two years, but I haven't cared enough to go get a job and some shithole fast-food restaurant so I could pay for it. I'm much happier with baseball umpiring, even though it's not enough to cover the extortion rates on insurance. It's more than enough to pay for a few cool video games or computer parts, though, and that's what I'm most interested in right now.
If MS wanted me to use a new version of internet explorer, they'd also need to prove why I should switch back to XP from linux. I haven't even been running it for a week and I like linux better than windows.
yeah, I'm happy with it so far. got my wireless card working, got openGL working, got sound mostly working, got my server set back up, and I'm nearly capable of playing starcraft again.
You can see the contents of a file without opening it!
I can right now, thanks to switching from windows to archlinux. Plus it was free, as opposed to the "free" upgrade to longhorn if I was still running windows.
I can't stand works, but my sister and mom still use it even though I put OOo on their comp. Now that she can't bring her works crap to school to work on it, she's using OOo now. I think she likes it.
The biggest gaming rush I've had in the last few days is finally beating Dust Man on Megaman IV a couple weeks ago. His stage completely stopped me from beating the game when I was 5 or 6, and I finally made it through now that I'm 18. Took me a few years, but I finally did it.
The game I've played that's the most pure fun in the past year has to be Katamari Damacy. It doesn't exactly have much depth to it, but it's just fucking awesome to pick up everything in the world, then make the moon out of it. Hell, I'm grinning IRL right now, just describing it:)
My favorite all-time is Tetris and Tetris Attack. No other game I've played I didn't get bored playing the same round for such a long time. Level 16 is fucking hard, no matter how old you are.
Honorable mention to Stepmania, just because it's managed to keep me playing the same songs I repeatedly fail in a hail of arrows. Each time I get a little bit farther through, little bit more, little bit more. Plus being able to add songs whenever I want is cool. And of course, the best geek moment for me in the past while is getting gnu/linux up and running on my personal home computer, getting the damn wireless working, and posting on/. with it, While listening to a NSF rip from megamanVI.
I fucking love those maps. Once I get UT04 up and running again, I'm gonna go play those for a day. You definately develop better aim on maps like that, since the distanced are so damn huge.
well, music goes in c:/music/$author/$CD, i've got a few different folders for various programming stuff, data CD rips go in mydoc/cds, videos go in c:/videos/$series, and so on for other stuff. I really don't see the need for a dedicated search tool. and if i'm trying to find a certain song in my playlist, ctrl-alt-J pulls up the jump to box for winamp, try in a few fragments and i've got my song. It's not really too hard if you have a plan for organizing.
What exactly does "not thread-safe" mean? I've been running php5 with apache2, though in WinXP, for about 8 months, and I haven't really had any major problems, aside from stupid programming errors.

I want this controller to play Descent with. Do you know if it is compatible with d1x or d2x on linux?
same with the Xbox...and the PS2...and the GC...and the GBA...and the DS

O.O Thanks for informing me I could run Linux on my PS2. I didn't know that before.
*plays doom3 on linux* ehh, no games? on linux? why must you turn slashdot into a house of lies?

Bad parent. no cookie. RTFQ, mindstorms was the example of what he wants to avoid.
I'd do some remote control things, for the class. not wireless remote, but something along similar lines.
