If you have the ability to allow infinite logins and attempt a scripted dictionary attack on the server (since it's your server) you can crack most weak passwords in a very short amount of time. That's why they're called weak passwords after all.
Wow, so a security/video expert could spend hours fiddling around with a custom video link to send me and it might pwn my computer. And that's a security threat? Dude, it'd be easier for him to get on a plane with a gun and just come shoot me. Paranoia might be a survival trait, but I'll never e able to reach your level.
The US laws are supposed to be about allowing freedom for everyone, not protecting business, but they are becoming increasingly against businesses. Microsoft was persecuted by the EU, which apparently doesn't trust people to choose to associate with businesses on their own, and the fines were wrong.
You need to substantiate some of this. What specific laws are you thinking of? In my opinion, US laws increasingly support business interests over individual rights, ala DMCA and other restrictive anti-consumer legislation.
While computer geeks and big spenders have options like linux and OS/X, typical consumers have a choice of MS Windows or no computer. That means 90% of the consumer market is locked into using Microsoft, so the EU correctly recognized them as a monopoly. When they illegally leveraged that monopoly to expand their business in other markets, the EU fined them. In what way do you see their attempt to protect free market fair trade as wrong?
The intereseting thing about ebay is that it is both simultaniously.
The public bid is the minimum amount required from the highest bidder
to win the object. The private bid is what they are actually willing
to pay. You see their low public bid and think you can beat it,
thereby running it up closer to their private bid. Then you get
emotionally involved in beating them, even though they aren't online
at the time!
I'm so glad they did this, because now we can all acknowledge that WEb 2.0 is well and truly played, and move on to new and better buzzwords. With this move will come an opportunity to pick memes taht actually represent real items!
Or probably just Web 3.0
dang.
I'm not claiming that computers should miraculously work forever, I'm claiming that the car mechanic analogy makes little sense for the majority of the cases.
computer is sensitive equipement that needs adequate servicing, exactly like a car.
You're talking about Microsoft Windows, not about computers in general. Computers don't need servicing, they are solid state devices. They are either working, or they are not.
When you add a search provider to IE7, it asks you whether you want it to be the default for all future searches. Kind of like the "make XYZ your default browser" option. Firefox doesn't have this concept for its search box.
Firefox defaults to whichever search engine was used last. If you use MSN once, then MSN is the default until you use something else. Or is it just the lack of a dialog box you are complaining about?
I believe that a physical reality exists, and that those reports which more closely match that could arguably be considered more informative, with or without scare quotes. I'm actually surprised that you would disagree with this.
...dig up one of those old copies for Solaris, HPUX or MacOS [X]
Keyword there is old. There is no current version of IE available for any platform besides Microsoft Windows.
Shame on a corporation for making a profit. AMD is so pure and virginal white, they'd never do something this dastardly.
Any corporation causes damage to the market when they try to leverage their monopoly to maintain the monopoly. If AMD ever crushes all their competition (no that I'm worried) they will also slow innovation. Far better to have multiple competing companies, where you can buy whatever you want. Perhaps we could call it a "free market," since you can shop around.
Microsoft Internet Explorer is only free if you own Microsoft Windows. Without a Microsoft Windows license, you have no license to run Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Microsoft leveraged Microsoft Windows to dominate the browser market, and then extended the browser in non-standard ways so that users must keep Microsoft Windows in order to keep their familiar browsing experience.
I have several programs that I install as Admin that will not install correctly using RunAs. If I'm wrong about why it fails, then I apologize. It still fails.
If RunAs worked reliably, you'd have a point.
Secondary processes started by the installer default back to the standard user, and then fail because they require admin priveledges. PITA indeed.
I suggested that the final version might be worse than the dev, in which case I would not upgrade. I'm also not suggesting that this is the case, just using it as an example.
Anyrate, logos are subjective. I just happen to like the old one a lot better.

We did switch to metric, then Reagan switched us back! But we really were 90% there, it's just a shame we didn't stick with it.

If the scholarships were not funded with tax dollars, your point would be stronger.

And do you perform "maintanence" on that dying motherboard? Or do you just replace it, as I indicated originally?
That's a great example of what I'm talking about. You can patch openBSD or not, and it still works just fine. Because it's not made by Microsoft

They are a onvicted monopolist, so this is more a matter of law than of economics.
I kept the search box and got rid of the homepage about:blank loads instantly, even over dial-up.

Oh absolutely, everyone has completely turned their back on Microsoft
[/sarcasm>]IE is and always has been a free product.

How is a standardized protocol for sharing files over network the same as innermost secrets of an OS?
how could a final version be better than the dev?
