i wonder how apple plans to deal with the bad pr if they don't release a killer product on april 1 and a large part of their user base slits their wrists... just a thought...
open source will only grow in popularity with projects like this one... jobs obviously saw the potential in having osx become the standard os of many emerging countries...
What good are standards if companies don't manufacture their products to spec... Many organizations also have their own internal guidelines for things such as hardware and site layout... It's hard to see how a one size fits all approach can be applied to something as unique as a datacenter...
If companies have mail zombies on their networks spam is the least of their problems, they should be more worried about the possibility that someone on the outside has complete control over internal machines... (trade secrets, contracts, customer lists...)
I'm neither an Apple or MS fanboy but it seems what's lacking is an honest analysis of the features in all these new OSs that will actually positively impact the average user... I find it hard to believe that users upgrading from XP to Vista will be as impressed as those who went from 9x/Millennium to XP and saw most things (including the Internet) "Just work". Is it worth spending over $100 so that you can be virus free for a few weeks? Linux is free and it will save most users from the largest computer annoyances...
1/9 isn't highly impressive but getting the lawyers out there flexing their muscles helps to protect them from people releasing anything and calling it "Linux". What if Microsoft funded a startup that created a very poor distro, called it "Linux 2006" and then ran benchmarks against it that showed how far superior XP was to "Linux". It may seem a little outlandish but these are the types of things that can be avoided if you protect your trademark... I don't think any Linux fans want to see the word become a generic term for any free(ish) OS.
It really doesn't matter who has the better product, MS will be the VOIP market leader if this new app is included in Vista because most users will just use whatever is already installed on their computer... Why else does Internet Explorer have 80%+ market share? (don't say it's because of the pretty blue "e")
How long before game devs start seriously looking at Linux as a platform... Will these improvements lead to more games being ported or is the gaming industry happy with it's current DirectX love fest?
Also Vista's weak OpenGL support probably won't help bridge the gap between Linux and Windows when it comes to graphics.
I read about people using craigslist to try and post info about missing loved ones... It would be helpful if the free hotspots would redirect people to a missing persons / general information page where they could get an idea of what services are available and what their best bet is for locating people or letting others know where they are.
how about the idiots trying to use wireless email behind the wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
it's sad but this has probably already been on the front page in the past...
p.s. I HOPE YOUR PONY FALLS INTO A WOOD CHIPPER

now you don't even have to interpret (or keep) your own apache logs... google makes life easier once again!!!
I'm pretty sure if you're using MS office you qualify as a disabled person.
i wouldn't worry about potential ads, drm, etc... there are other, more innovative clients out there...
You'd be surprised how many high level IT decisions are based more on who the CEO plays golf with than what would be best for the company...
