Haven't you heard? Canada is the new China... On a serious note, this is probably one of the few times when government should start meddling in the affairs of private enterprise. Especially one part of an oligopoly.
SuSE has always seemed a little to corporate for F/OSS, there were probably many people who were confused about exactly what the licensing terms were. Releasing evaluation versions could have also contributed to reluctance on the part of noobs to give it a try. Hopefully they will bake cd images available on opensuse and clear up some of the confusion
lots of cities are trying to implement large "hotspots" using current hardware (802.11g) with 802.11n not too far off the savings would have to be enormous if they were to wait just a short amount of time for the new hardware... it could cut their repeater requirements in a big way...
most folks buy a new computer when their machine gets slow... most peoples machines get slow when the re's too much spyware for other apps to compete with...
there are people who upgrade from 2.4ghz machines to 3ghz+ because their old machine wasn't powerful enough to surf the web or compose emails...
i would imagine that much of the demand for faster chips is fueled by people who don't know enough to just format their machine and reinstall their os...
i hope this miracle release from debian will keep the ubuntu folks from straying too far from the original core... it's nice when all your apps just work(tm)
our site also lists linux torrents (as well as others) and their stats... there are also a number of other sites dealing in f/oss that do torrent listings...
if said engine displayed the torrents with the highest amount of seeds that it was tracking... i have a feeling they wouldn't all be linux iso images but you'd be more likely to have the mpaa interested if joe sixpack can get the new starwars movie without too much difficulty, and with loads of help from the creator of the protocol...
if this is a quick cash grab on brams part i hope he's considered how quickly legal fees can kill even the most profitable business...

that might cause them to reconsider how they enforce the law.

someone's been using firefox!!!
will the search engine be open source???
if the source is released under an open source license it would make it nearly impossible for a "gold standard" bittorrent search engine to emerge...
getting the community to help with the development would spread out not only the work, but the blame if it ever comes down to litigation...
