Games do comsume a lot of cpu but are not typically multithreaded. Eventually, games will be multithreaded, as we see more multi-core systems out there.
As far as gaming, AMD sees that a single core solution is still the best for gaming.
Thus, they plan to market the single core Athlon 64 FX to high end gamers even after the introduction of the dual-core Athlon 64.
I read somewhere that in 1999 ms had like $8.7 billion or so in profits, but if you properly accounted the options ms gave to employees they would have resulted in a loss of $11 billion .
The widespread use of stock options to compensate employees has caused corporate earnings to be grossly overstated, since the options reduce the amount of wages charged against profits.
oh great, next thing you know people will be porting over spy ware and i wil have to run adaware in wine.
seriously, tho people need to start writing portable code so they don't get vendor trapped. i'm not saying microsoft is bad, but im not going to depend on their os just because it is the most popular, things change.
i had friend that worked for blizzard and he sed the ai on starcraft was way too good for human to beat so they had to gimp it make it possible to win. i need an ai to do my laundry tho.
what gets me is with apps likee office telling you what it thinks is best. the problem is when anti social programmers come up with the guis. the software process needs to evolve methods for coders and ui people to interact. in most cases competition should bring out the simplest and most useful interface. but with every changing comptuers, the software that leads is the one with the most features albeit half broken. i have hopes that google with change this.
Honestly seems that apple is just try to creatte more buzz about their products. Banning distribution of Jobs speech, subpoenas against unnamed individual who leaked the information.. it's all the same, and the press eats it up. Yeah, they might have kept the secret for like 5 days longer but that really is going to have no affect to their sales nor will they get any money from these fools . my new chick roommate works at apple store and she knew about some of the stuff before think secret , it just gets around..
i'm not a big apple fan, too expensive, but this new 500 pc has me rethinking, but prob not because no upgradabilty =p.
the govn't should be looking into why a cd cost the same as a dvd. you'd think it'd be cheaper to produce a bunch of audio tracks than it would a movie (ya i realize that movies get box office sales but artist get show sales too)
The whole distribution model for music has to change and these guys realize they might lose their market hold and are fighting to keep it. The problems right now is even if someone comes up with a better solution current artists can't hop on. most are lockd into contracts forbidding them to sell any cds from non RIAA approved companies. the radio stations are all pretty much in on this too, only playing songs approved by these companies. rich ass artists need to band together and cut out the middle man and set somethign up for the little guys trying to make it the music biz.
good thing i went through and read some comments and the article to see that all three issues have been fixed and only people with mozilla-firefox 1.0 are vunerable. otherwise i would have gone on thinking that my firefox version was vunerable and stop surfing the net and actually get some work done. but for people using the rss feed or who just read the post on the main page, some clarification to the post is necessary. Any ops around to add, all items are fixed.
how much u pay
1)
buy a 150 off 600 amex code on ebay
total cost is around $490
(search amex coupon on ebay)
2) check slickdeals.net and wait for a deal to come up on it in the next week
also check out the 2005fp which is widescreen, but does have a smaller viewing area
$5000?? that seems like a pretty retarded idea, you could just buy 300-400 dvds and store them in a closet instead.
"Use SMB over gigabit ethernet to mount these images to your clients and then play whatever you like."
-umm doesnt let you play them on a tv tho, nice try tho, expect to spend another hundred or so on a nice htpc (well you'll need a decent tv out card and maybe a nice processor if you intend to upscale the dvd content to hd for your sweet hd tv, oh right you spent 5000 on a computer so have to watch on your monitor in your bedroom, too bad)
Oh divx, ah ya that's a good idea, too bad you probably couldn't figure out how that works, nice try tho, but seriously, i'd use xvid, better all around codec and should work in most stand alone divx player:p

this casino sounds retarded. i'm def going to short wynn stock as soon as the casino opens.
i sat there for 10 minutes looking for an ad and looking at the page source until i realized that i had ad block on. that sucker works great
use the computer til it breaks, fix computer..
this repeats til they get fed up and stop using their computer or figure out adaware and virus scanning.
now class don't copy linus's code line for line, read the code and then paraphrase it in your own words.

i dunno maybe b/c they didn't think there would be "insane" people that play the game as a profession.

i read somewhere that piracy of oses helps their adoption in new markets, anyone know if this is true?

ProjectSize Success Challenged Failed
Standish Group Chaos Project Statistics Copyright 1998, The Standish Group Internation, Inc.-Challenged means that the requirements for the project were not met i.e. over budget, over time estimate and offering fewer features/functions.
-The Virtual Case File software project was impaired i.e. cancelled
p.s. it was a big pain to line up stuff, is there an easier way to do this on slashdot posts? using the allowed html?
