The great thing about the "Chatty Duel" in the Princess Bride is how simple the blade work actually is. Besides the acrobatics and tossing of swords the fencing is relatively simple and well executed. That scene has generated more interest in fencing than any of our recent Olympic achievements can hope to. Nearly every student I've taught has been influenced to seek out the sport in part by that film and after 6 months or so I will tell them to re-watch it and see all the actions they just learned. As was said above, he was able to create such elegant choreography and able to teach the actors to perform it with such skill he was able to create so many of the great and memorable film duels.

Like many other post grads I found the note pad approach the best for remembering to do those tasks during the day and a desk calendar for those long term projects. Another tip, hold onto your syllabi. Most everything is right there from day one if your prof takes the time write a decent one. PDAs aren't for everyone. I was given an old one my last semester of college and while it was handy for the calendar function I was using it more for e-books to kill time between classes without carrying a ton of books around. For some classes project Gutenberg saved me some money using this method. I eventually got a new Clie and gave my old Palm to someone else to try. They in turn used it to hold post it notes they wrote instead of entering the same data into the palm. I took it back after I found it covered in about five sticky notes. My advice, find an old, cheep PDA on eBay and try it out before you commit to an expensive toy.

Funny, everyone called it an Easter Egg when Lucas Arts advertised other games inside ones you were playing. Like "Grim Fandango" in "Escape from Monkey Island". I think they did that with the first or second MI game with Loom, or that could have been the other way around.

I guess this is just another thing to blame on George Lucas...

I've been looking to do the same although my email archive isn't nearly as massive but I would still like to consolidate it all. One option I've been considering is GMail Loader. I've done this for a long time too. Someone noticed it and accused me of buying it at some nearby computer store. After informing said person that I am geek enough to make my own RAM keychain I was surprised at how much they were charging for these things. Don't think it's a get rich quick scheme but I've got to give it to them for marketing and obsolete product.

I used to publish my college newspaper using CollegePublisher and it was a nice easy to use and manage system. The cost was simply running their ads in every issue. We left the service because I could design and maintain a site myself and the publishing staff would not have to give up ad and story space in the paper. This was two or three years ago however, and I don't know if things have changed. I thought I read somewhere a long time ago that they offered a service for high school papers but I don't see a mention of this on their homepage. I'll look a little deeper when I have more time tonight but they are defiantly worth a look if they offer services to high schools.

I use and really like the idea of WASTE, although i wish it had a nicer UI. This takes it to an extreme and over complicates the matter. Also, as far as secure goes, I have issues with having to register to use it. I'm going to stick to WASTE where I don't have to worry about any third parties.

  13. Re:"new" trailer? on Hitchhikers Movie Update · · Score: 1

Yes, it should have been called an altered trailer, as the only difference between this and the one you speak of is the addition of a book frame around the edges of the logo. I guess if that clears things up for people who have never bothered to read the book it was worth it, but I still call it a dirty trick against those who are waiting to see something of actual substance.
