I wondered if anyone even bothered to read the article. We have a winner! Apparently we also have two mods who didn't read it, but WOULD HAVE found it insightful.
Companies usually can't even make their patents available for the purpose of building a counterthreat because those patents are already subject to existing cross-licensing agreements. If a new entity (such as the Open Invention Network) started acquiring unencumbered patents, then one day they might be able to grant a license to a company like Microsoft in exchange for a covenant not to sue Linux with its own patents. That could indeed make a major difference (even if only for Linux), yet it wouldn't help against trolls that have no products of their own. And a strategic aggressor could secretly arrange for such a troll to do the job.
Every year someone complains that tabletop roleplaying is going to go under because of different causes. Religious nut jobs, PC games, console games, live action roleplaying. Guess what, as long as there are nerds there will be roleplaying. Too many DMs have invested too much cash to just stop.
The book was written in 1994. He found it some time ago. The book didn't describe how to configure the card, it explained the commands that he had followed previously to do so. Try to pay attention.
...Why wouldn't they want as many people as possible developing for their site, even if that means giving your API away from the start? If you're in the business of getting people to buy and sell things through your website, why wouldn't you want to get as much traffic as possible? eBay is not a software company.
Since many users in poorer countries don't have existing systems there is no "switch" from one system to another. The users can start out using open source without having the baggage of expectations of how things SHOULD work. They have to start out by learning how to use an OS. Why not the free one?
The discussion is about hybrids. They run on gasoline to generate electricity. They're more efficient because they reclaim kinetic energy when braking (among other reasons). The primary source of power remains gasoline.
I disagree that the government should get involved with issues that should be a parent's job. Who defines what is "ultra-violent"? Does this mean that hotels will require you to come down to the lobby with photo ID before allowing you to play in-room games, or will they all be G rated puzzle games from now on? I disagree with the general assumption that violent games are the cause of violent behavior in the first place. The bill bases some criteria on "contemporary local community standards". Does this mean that what is acceptable in Detroit is not acceptable in smaller towns? Too many variables for what I perceive as a non-solution anyway.
...until they come out with holographic-RW
You'd prefer the editors and dupes of Slashdot??

I think the AC was making a joke since (s)he knew which of the three links I was referring to... :)
Get it here.
That's what I get for actually trying to RTFA, I guess.
...and it was on Digg two days ago
At least for another 30 years or so...
Because some places refuse to print your work if it looks too good.

I'd love to watch the ones that originally aired on these shows.

I've got the '04 Tiburon GT 5-speed. Traded in a '00 Sonata on it. Not a complaint on either one.
I like mine.
Or can you agree not to assert future patents?
...but socialism, in it's most basic form means "sharing."

You're doing it wrong. You have to use thickfoil.

By "silver lining" I think you meant "sliver of common sense". Someone please note the date and time for the record.
Officially sanctioned or voluntarily it's still a loaded phrase, so why would I include at all to describe my own community if it's voluntary?
