Ufnfortunatly most of the programing tools I use for embedded systems are windows only. Some are just becoming availible for MAC, but for the most part are not availible for Linux. The one current exception is MPLAB-X which is fairly new and java based. But being new it is barley usable, currently even on windows.
I worked on equipment back in the 90's that could plug into a telephone switch, and record all call going through it,It was not for the NSA but I have no dought that is where it ended up.

This does not just happen with games. I program audio devices for the High end audiophile market. I have the same issues with some members of our firums.
It's not a speed issue. Atoms have a neutral electric charge, where electrons have a negative charge. Atoms moving means no net charge is moved, means no current flows, which means there is virtually no power is consumed in the process.
I built one back in the early 70's as a science fair project. It shot pennies at a very high velocity, high enough to go right through the back wall of the garage. It worked on a slightly different principal as the Navy one. Instead of using the magnetic field to propel the projectile, it used a piece of copper foil folded accross the penny, connecting to a pair of copper rails about a quarter inch appart. When a car battery was connected accross the 2 rails, the copper foil is vaporized, shooting the penny out the far end at a high velocity. It was a blast.

Actually it was a major $%^$ing pain in the butt to change firefox back to the default browser after IE8 hijacked it.
This just shows what a bunch of scumbags music companies really are.
