    The most advanced nations of the planet mostly deforested their nations too. Europe has basically nothing left of the old growth forests outside of some small preserves. The US has a smaller percentage of forest than Brazil and two third of that is fucking timberland ...

    I'm not sure this is accurate. First, as any woodworker can tell you, the alleged logging isn't making Brazilian hardwood better available or less expensive. Second, as carnivores can tell you, beef isn't becoming less expensive

    Neither of those follows from the premise. It's all about profit, not lowering prices or improving product.

    nor is Brazil a prime source for best quality beef.

    Again: It doesn't follow that they'd be selling it to your local supplier.

    B) are you really trying to say that currencies are never are treated as investments? Really?

    No, but really:
    a) All currencies trend downwards in the long term, due to inflation.
    b) To make money, you're relying on the difference between two currencies becoming larger over time.
    c) You're relying mostly on one currency going down, not the other one going up (ie. the other one won't be worth more in the country where it's used).

    Right now:
    i) All cryptocurrencies are going down so the advice of any sensible person would be to switch to $, not the other way around.
    ii) It's a negative feedback loop, less people using Bitcoin as a currency means it won't "recover", it will be worth less and less as time passes.

    Think about how much Bitcoin would rise again if even 10% of the people in most modern cities around the world bought and started using a few hundred $ worth.

    Now think about how much it would be worth if they didn't.

    PS: Currencies aren't supposed to "rise", they're supposed to be stable.

    You'll be mocked mercilessly until you grasp this concept: A thing can't be both an investment instrument and a working currency at the same time.

    Explain this reasoning.... how is a foreign backdoor preferable to a domestic one?

    The Chinese government isn't going to try to arrest a US citizen in his own home, put them on a no-fly list because they read the Koran once, or whatever.

  16. I played fortnite a few times. It's a lot of walking.

    This too.

    You'll spend 50% (or more) of the "game" just running through fields, trying to get to where the action is. When you arrive you'll instantly be shot and become a spectator for the rest of the time.

    Maybe if you've played 1000 games before you'll know the right places to drop in but I had no desire to find out.

    Surely I can't be the only one who doesn't "get" what the fuss is about. Anybody? Bueller...?

    What's fun about Fortnite?

    Not much. You'll spend more time waiting around and downloading updates than you will playing the game.

    When you play it? Meh. I totally failed to see what the fuss was about.

    Would I like it?

    If UT2004 was the absolute best thing you ever did in your life then you might enjoy it.

    This one's about 12 years old so YMMV.

    One thing: Their "compact" models aren't spill proof. I killed one by spilling earl grey into it. The full size ones have the proper liquid-catching tray that drains to the front of the keyboard.

    A modern airship using Hydrogen would be orders of magnitude safer then the Hindenburg. That being said, still not safe enough. Just use helium and deal with the reduced efficiency.

    Weird. It's almost as if you believe that helium is cheap and unlimited.

    You know that no ship is watertight, right? It's much easier to pump out a bit of water once a day than it is to get a perfect seal.

    Blimps could do the same thing, ie. have some tanks of hydrogen on board to keep themselves topped up when some escapes.
