    Yep. I have convincing evidence that all those exhaust pipes and coal-fired power stations were formed by erosion. This is a completly natural process that would have happened anyway.

    I've heard this "16 years" thing several times lately. I think it's the latest thing being put out by the climate change disinformation campaign.

    When you've debunked it long enough they'll come up with something else.

    (...and put it on the radio for society's low common denominators to hear and spread as gospel truth)

    What's special is that they're trying to unify (to the degree possible) their product across phones, tablets, and the PC.

    We get that, but:

    a) Nobody asked them to

    b) They went all out for a product which nobody actually owns yet and in the process created something that none of their existing customers would touch with a 10 foot bargepole.

    How difficult would it have been tom make a nicer Windows 7 where you can press the Windows key to go to the metro interface if you want to?

    Those either have diphthongs or are bastardized versions of a weird foreign word (giraffe).

    Do you have an example of a word that starts with "gif..." where the 'g' is pronounced like 'j'?

    The first time I head somebody say "jiff format" I had no idea what they were on about. True story.

    It's a 'G'. We say girl, gun, gimp, giga... not jirl, jun, jimp, jigger.

    The number of bitcoins is capped. That part of the scam is to give the early adopters a huge advantage if there are a large number of people that join in the pyramid.

    Right now it costs more in electricity to generate a coin than the coin is worth...

    Agree. In any pair of languages there's a lot of words/phrases which simply can't be translated without cultural references.

    This is where machines can't help (in fact they'll probably make things worse). Automatic translation is a noble goal but I don't think it can ever be a substitute for the real thing where there's a big difference in culture.

    It can work for limited cases of course: eg. The language needed for ordering 10,000 widgets by next Tuesday should be machine-translatable. OTOH the small-talk most salesmen engage in before the sale will probably lead to global warfare if attempted.
